Let's do an experiment. You get to list 5 things that make you happy. Doesn't matter what they are, but keep it clean.

Here's the catch - you can't repeat anything anyone else has said. So if one person says their kids make them happy, you can't say your kids make you happy.

Let's see if we can get to 100.

Here's my 5:

1) Making people laugh.
2) Reading.
3) Hot chocolate on a cold day.
4) When my wife and I can spend the afternoon together and have money to do so.
5) Surprisingly enough, you knuckleheads.

(By the way, troll in this thread and you'll be out of it. I need a lift, not a continuation of crap.)

1.) Having time to go on a date with my wife.
2.) Playing planetside 2 with my friends at my side and laughing our asses off as the least capable driver careens around the landscape like an idiot.
3.) Riding my dirt bike up to a particular mountain top and just relaxing with no one around for miles and miles.
4.) Playing my guitar or piano when I get the chance. Bonus happiness if I have a friend jamming with me.
5.) Getting spontaneous hugs from my sons after a crappy day.

1) That feeling of completing some long-put-off but necessary chore, preferably one that involves physical labor
2) Hiking out into the wilderness, far enough to not hear cars any more
3) Flying a plane (Not sure how relevant it is any more, given that it's been years, but I loved it more than almost anything)
4) Random kisses from my daughter. Rare as hen's teeth, and all the more precious for when they're given
5) Being a part of a group, accepted, in on the jokes, and welcomed.

  1. Putting my Creative Writing degree to use
  2. Planning my future with the General
  3. Listening to Audiobooks (so I can do embroidery at the same time)
  4. Wearing pretty dresses
  5. Finding ways to be crafty and save money or would it be saving money by being crafty?

1) cuddling with my spouse
2) baking
3) doing my job well
4) having a good conversation with my mom or grandma
5) hanging out with my MMO guild and listening to the random banter

1) A freshly cleaned house.
2) Getting to play around in the kitchen with quality ingredients and no budget.
3) Getting together with my Friday night gaming group and just bullshitting.
4) Good mead.
5) The prospect of moving out of this god-forsaken hell hole of a metroplex when our lease is up this year.

Edit: You do know most of our 5 things are going to be similar to each others', right? I'm sure you do, you're a smart man. You're probably ok with it.

Dave edit: As long as they aren't generic that's fine. Like "my kids" or something.

1) Yoga (or exercising in general)
2) Comic books (or reading in general)
3) My cat
4) Bicycling
5) Being a goofball (especially for the amused but eye rolling reaction from people)

Managed to actually write that despite going through a bout of depression right now. Huh.

1. Finding out new and interesting stuff.
2. When things go according to plan.
3. When something new and unexpected happens to break the rut of tedium. Keeps the mind sharp.
4. A quiet and comfortable night out with a small group of good friends, with interesting conversation
5. To know that there are people who have things a lot worse than I do. Sounds horrible I know, but it serves to put my first world problems into perspective, and comforts me when I realise that, all things considered, I'm still doing pretty good.

1. The smell of a campfire on a cool fall morning
2. My dog running at me wagging his tail.
3. The smell of boiling wort.
4. Watching a heavy snowfall with very little wind. The kind where there are huge snowflakes that kind of lazily fall.
5. Blowing up someones internet space ship.

1.) ...

I'm not a really happy person.
Come over and cook with me cause
1) Cooking.
2) Hosting company.
3) Listening to people just... talk. Conversation is great, and I ask a lot of questions.
4) Finding out what makes people tick, what matters to them, and how to learn from that.
5) As an unhappy person, being happy with other unhappy people is basically the happiest.

1. The scent of ripped mandarin leaves on my fingertips.
2. A good night's sleep.
3. Snowfall when it's dark outside.
4. Warm woollen socks.
5. Spending time with my friends and gaming buddies.

To hell with it, I'll put one more:
* When a dish you've made yourself turns out to be extra delicious.

1. A good debate with friends
2. An extra tasty meal
3. Dancing with a cute girl
4. Seeing someones smile when you surprise them with a gift or helping hand
5. Enjoying the freshly fallen snow

1. Staring at attractive females. (This counts as clean, right?)
2. Accomplishing a good, full day's work.
3. Not accomplishing much at work, because it's a light day.
4. Serendipity. Accidentally stumbling on a cool site, or finding that the software you've used for years actually has a cool feature you never knew about.
5. Lightsabers. Watching a good lightsaber duel, like Ryan vs Brandon, will brighten up any day.

BONUS: Accidentally encountering a hot female coworker you never knew worked at your office, and being able to stare at her all day because it's a light day without a lot of work that needs doing. After a full day of ogling, going home for some lightsabers.

1. Driving through leaves
2. Windy days
3. Inside jokes (Brad, if you read this, this is for you, 'Chip and Dale?')
4. Being married
5. My sewing machine

1) Making people laugh.
5.) Getting spontaneous hugs from my sons after a crappy day.
1) That feeling of completing some long-put-off but necessary chore, preferably one that involves physical labor

1. People watching at a restaurant with Jake
2. Frozen yogurt
3. A thunderstorm--when I've got nowhere to go
4. Zumba
5. This:

1. When I've done my job so by the book, precisely, cleanly and professionally that the scumbag I was investigating has no chance in hell of getting away with his heinous bullshit. This has only happened a few times, but every time it has filled me with a sense of satisfaction that I cannot replicate otherwise.

2. Twilight, the time of day not the shitty vampire stuff, in the summer. When the sun has just set, it's cooling off and everything is blue. It is the most comforting time of day for me. Perfect time to have a fire, some beers and some friends around, not to say much, just to sit there and enjoy the time.

3. Getting in a full sized, 2000 point game of 40K. Such a rarity to enjoy it.

4. Prime Rib, as rare as possible without being raw, smothered in salt, pepper, herbs, garlic, au jus and onions.

5. The thought of one day being a pilot which isn't a possibility anymore....still a man can dream.
