Kags' Cosplay Thread

Wouldn't cosplaying that Mary Jane image cause irreparable damage to your hips?

If that's what you're looking to do, try something really different. Go as the Hawkeye Initiative.

I think I could get away with it, as I won't be sitting while cosplaying her. ;)

I'm pretty sure if I did Hawkeye Initiative that would just equal an Escher Girl....and since I'm female, I'm pretty sure that defeats the purpose of the joke....?

Side note, I always feel bad when people joke about that MJ picture simply because J Scott's girlfriend actually sits like that.

I'm leaning towards wearing Bayo for two days. And then I waffle between LSP or the Catsuit....

It's hard to decide! And normally I'm so prepared....

Catwoman seems to be winning. :) And I like the idea that I would only need to make the cowl and gloves and she's ready to go.

And then I can do a sweet photoshoot for you guys! (For the first time photographers are approaching me wanting to do photoshoots, which is very exciting! Hopefully it goes well.)

If you want a little variety, you could throw a red hat and trenchcoat over that catsuit and go as Carmen Sandiego.

Opinion time!

I'm prepping myself to die of heat this year, I'm wearing A LOT of PVC and gloves (gloves are the worst!!) and I want to give myself a break where I can. I don't think I can handle a wig with the cowl on....How upset do you think people will be if I just use my own hair? I know it's inaccurate - Adam Hughes' Catwoman has black hair, that is relatively short, but...I just don't think I could deal with the extra heat a wig will give me.

How raked over the coals will I be?

( PatrThom, one does not simply throw more layers over an already scorching catsuit. ;) )

You could always go oldschool.

I know.

But I'm not. I'm specifially doing AH's Catwoman, my PVC catsuit matches his. My catsuit wouldn't look glittery enough to be Julie's.
Well, I suppose it depends on how accurate you want to be to a specific iteration of the character, or if the spirit of the character is what you're hoping to capture. I really don't think anyone is going to look at you and think "pfft, no cowl? BURN HER!"

Well, no, I'm wearing the cowl, I just don't want to wear a wig underneath the cowl. And my hair is quite long, like nearly down to the small of my back, so it will quite obviously hang down. I'm hoping it will fit under the cowl and then no one will see anything. But yeah, I just wanted an opinion about the hair, wether or not you think people will flip their gourd about it.

At DCC there was a large black woman cosplaying as Quistis from FF8 in the Cosplay Shindig, and no one gave a shit, though SDCC might be more hardcore I don't know. If it's just a walking around costume and not a competition entry, if anyone gives you shit they are dicks that should be ignored.

Thanks guys. I'll steel myself for the worst and hope for the best.

I do hire a makeup artist every year for SDCC, so hopefull she and I can come up with something cool to do for my hair.

At least you guys are awesome. :)

Make a sign that is on a stand next to you that says:
"Compliments met with a smile!
Complaints are met with a swift kick to the nuts!"

The do whatever the hell you want to do.

Any non-100%-exact depiction of a character is a GRAVE INSULT to the creative genius of the original creator and to the intelligenec of onlookers, assuming they wouldn't spot the difference. If you're going to wear a costume and not make it as accurate as you can possibly be, you don't deserve to wear the suit at all, and you shouldn't go to the convention. You should jsut stay home and feel bad about yourself for wanting to make sucha crappy display of yourself, you attention-seeking hussy.

...I really can't pull off the whole "angry con nerd" thing, can I? Darn :p

Any moderately intelligent and/or emotionally sensible person who cares, should be happy that you're going to such lengths to try and display a great costume/good character/present a great aesthetic/are there at all.
Anyone who would actually critizise you for presenting a not-perfect rendition of a character could likely critizise every cosplayer there, except for the actual Catwoman. Ignore them, whip them or pointy-heel-to-the-crotch them, depending on your whims.

or pointy-heel-to-the-crotch them, depending on your whims.
But...I'm not wearing heels. :(

=^^= You know, I tend to waffle between being 100% accurate or giving myself artistic freedom. And Catwoman I feel I should be 100% accurate on, since I'm capable of doing so. I know it doesn't really matter, which is why I'm okay doing it inaccurately, but I do know that people will fight with me about it. That I can garuntee. And that reality is why I'm worried about it.

Unless you're basing yourself off a movie version and are using the exact same clothing and have an uncanny lookalike effect going on with the actress (-tor) playing the character, 100% isn't possible anyway. Especially for women in comics, considering the fanservicey (or misogynistic and objectifying, if you're Charlie or a pessimist) way they're drawn all too often.

If anything, go for what the character should feel like, not what the character should look like - or you're bound to end up trying poses that are literally impossible ;)
Does having somewhat longer hair, or a different colour, in any way change the character (for some characters, having short hair or a beard or bringt pink hair might really be important)? Or is it a purely inconsequential aesthetic detail? If the hair is not at all relevant, I honestly don't see why it should bother you. :)

That's why you carry a whip.

For whipping.

(Thank you Zappit and Bones!)

I went to play at the local comic shop yesterday, as Black Cat!

Right as I was heading out the door. Yes, I'm a selfie taker....

Freakishly terrified of Cap'n out at the front of the store.

One of the workers at the comic shop has the most gorgeous Bernese Mountain Dog named Sherman. I know...it looks like I killed him, but really, we were just cuddling on the floor. Cause I love him.

Me slacking on the job.

Stormtrooper love!

So, I leave for SDCC in..three days! Hopefully I can do some preview/test shots for my costumes this year. I dunno, we'll see if I can get around to it. Anyway, just thought you guys might like to see what I was up to.

You went to a comic shop dressed like that?

How many nerds were frozen in terror?
Haha, zero! The guy working there is a friend, so he gave me a high five, took my picture and gave me a free trade comic for 'working'. =^^= It was a nice day. Seriously, Sherman is the man - no one paid me any mind as soon as they saw Sherman.

Well you just get prettier and prettier!
Ohhh, you! You're so sweet!

Looks so strange seeing you with hair that isn't red.
The selfie really sells it.

It may even shock you to know that I'm naturally a brunette, not even a readhead! *le gasp!*
And thank you, I'm glad. =^^=

I love how obviously short you are next to that trooper, it slays me, you dont even look "short".
I think I'm 'averagely' short. I also think my height is why people still think I'm in high school. I get asked for my id all the time - when I buy M rated video games or certain medicines. Yeah.

I'm only 5' 4".

That's actually average female height in the United States. So you're not short at all, you're just more prone to noticing tall people.

Perceptions are kind of weird. I'm only 5' 11" but people keep commenting on how tall I am, when it's basically average height in the US.
