Halforum Minecraft Server

Spent most of today in creative mode working on my design for the server. Still only about halfway through, but it's really starting to come together. Now if only I could get Minecraft Structure Planner to start working...

I think my village is a success. I mean, how many villagers does it take to be considered one? How's about this?

I count 50. And that's not counting the 29 I found in the buildings adjacent or below me. As always, this is a rough count as the little buggers are running all over the damned place.

If I go back to playing, I'm probably going to try to trap my villagers in booths, so that they can't run around. No real need for them to be mobile if I can stop them.

FYI, new Java update if you haven't already been nagged to death about it.

The server should get updated, as well.

FYI, I upped the view distance to 9 again. Mobs seems to much more present again. 1.7 seems to have brought some weird bugs with mob spawning. Let me know how it goes. It doesn't seem to be too bad at night, and hopefully squid are easier to find.

1.8 seems to be a bit of a double edged sword right now. The new enchanting, skins, blocks, trading, and server optimizations all seem pretty cool. The problem is villagers will no longer breed on their own, which will suck if the old villagers have to be replaced to get the new trading system, and the iron farm will not be fully automatic, which will in turn increase lag when we now have a bunch of iron golems spawned waiting to be killed. I guess we'll see what shape it's in when it gets released.

I had a village started last night , some mods happened, it got invaded and now it is empty. is there a way to restore that chunk to last night? or do i need to start from scratch?

Mobs happened? Or were you on single play?

IN any event, you have to start over. If you like, I can drop by and see if I can make a villager or two.

Unfortunately I can't. We're running straight Vanilla, so there aren't any mods that I know of that let you restore only sections of a backup.

@Eriol, any idea when you'd like to raid the End?

I removed a bunch of torches from around your village, Grub, as well as making a zombie "trap". You get chased by a zombie villager, run in one side and when they follow you you put a block in his way, then run around the other side and totally block him in. You can then put a hole in the wall and hit him with weakness and the golden apple, keeping him trapped until he changes. And keeping him trapped until you've got 2 villagers.

Plus, I found out where your mobs were coming from. You need a torch on the top of your buildings as well. Also, create an iron golem day 1 when you get your villagers.

I appreciate you wanting my opinion on this Shakey, but I think you guys should raid it whenever you want, probably this weekend. I'm out of town, and am not going to be back until after that. Just please leave the "result" in the End so I can get the achievement and such, ie: don't reset the end. But I don't want my necessity to be out of down (and away from any computer good enough to play the game decently) to stop the rest of you. Go have fun!

Edit: and btw, do we have a new map, or does that tectonicus thing auto-update? If so, please put it on the first post as well.

Thanks Dave, it was working but my walls were too close to my houses. Moving the walls made them too close to the hills.

I can help clear some of that stuff out. Once I get the first villager, they draw zombies to them like flies to crap.

Got lucky. Trapped a zombie villager on the first night after setting up the trap. The second night he attracted a shit ton of zombies - two of which were also zombie villagers. I trapped both of them (I could have gotten 2 more but didn't have enough potions of weakness) and now you have 3 villagers and a baby. I then retorched the place and got you an iron golem using your own mats.

I'm in the village now, I'm not going to do any trades, and I'm going to make sure it's still safe for them.

You may, though, want to create a door somewhere else in the wall as a few times I've had creatures just sitting in your pool and I couldn't go past without killing them.

and my cacti wall is not complete. nothing can get near that village. you now need to swim under the cacti and jump into the ladder. thanks to Dave and Wasabi's hubby (AussieTizzers).

How do you get new villagers, if they don't breed?

You have to trade with them, which puts them in the mood to breed. You can't do the same trade all the time though. The chance of getting in the mood to breed decreases with each trade of the same type. So it's just a lot more interaction. Also they will harvest crops and plant seeds. So wall off your farms if you don't want them grabbing your crops.

They did relent on the new drop rules for golems and pigmen. They did change it so all doors will attach to a near village and not create a new village like it did before though. So the big golem grinders and door workarounds will no longer work.[DOUBLEPOST=1390529371,1390529230][/DOUBLEPOST]Here's a video on it.

I watched another video from those same guys you posted, and they said during their testing they found that maybe farming puts them into the mood to breed as well.

That would be nice. I have a feeling 1.8 is still a ways off. They're not just adding new biomes or features, they're changing the way a lot of things work.

I reallllly just want some of the server optimizations they say they're pushing out. I don't know what it is, but there is some crazy lag on the server right now. Maybe it was the new ram, maybe it's the amount of villages we have, or the amount of automation, but it is more than it should be. I'm going to reboot the server machine and see if that helps tonight, and if it doesn't I may try putting back in the old ram for the heck of it.

I can't think of any reason why more RAM would cause lag, unless some other process is slowed down by extra RAM.

I could always thin my herd as well if need be. I'll isolate the Fortune III guy and then somehow the building they all congregate on will catch fire...

I wouldn't worry about it yet. I will try to play with it a bit this week again.

Somebody have an accident in the blaze grinder? I see various blocks replaced with cobblestone...
Some of that was me. Last time I was there, the pistons glitched, leaving blocks floating. Fixed it as quick as possible, and cobble and nether brick were all I had. The cobble in the collection area was someone else, though.

I think the server's about to crash.. can't even type any more on it.
I was having a little trouble as well.

I wonder if all the trouble we're having is because of his router, and not the server? If the NAT tables get to be too big/volatile, that could possibly be what's doing it.
