It looks like the tectonicus map is.. kinda sorta partway updated to the state of the server as of last week, at some zoom levels?

Yeah, I was waiting until it all uploaded. I tried smartftp, but even that takes forever. It still has to compare each file, and when there are over 100k of them it's a slow go. Should be up now though. It's as of last thursday.

I also added @PatrThom as an op. I haven't been on much lately, and I wanted another person to help people out if needed. He's a good guy and has always helped me out, so I'm sure he'll be a good one.

Some zooms in the middle (4-5ish) still seem to be old. Patr had some ideas on scripting that might save time, though it will require two copies of the tectonicus map on the hard drive for comparison before uploading.

An interesting thing, the #view signs don't seem to support angles other than cardinal directions... my #view was supposed to be looking northeast, and it came out due north.

Yeah, we can tell how old it is by the fact that Cranky is in it, but just his character. He's been building like a madman but the map doesn't even show his bed.

Basically I was suggesting keeping a complete copy of the map that you currently have on the server locally in one directory on your machine, then generating a new map into another local directory, then running some sort of script compare to copy only the different files into a third local directory, and then using xxxFTP to only send up just the files that make it into that third directory. That way, all the calculations/hashing/copying/compares get done locally (and fast!) instead of over the network link.

I had to do a refresh(ctrl+f5) to get some spots to update.

A script should be possible, tectonicus outputs a file that lists all changed files. I'm sure that can be used to decide which ones need to be uploaded. Looking around people have used python, but I haven't found an example and don't really have the time right now to play with it. Even with that, the amount of files that were changed from the last time I did it is crazy, and it might be faster and less work to just do a full wipe of the old map and put in a new one.

Yeah, I suppose it matters how often the map is updated... everybody probably did so much work in the weeks between maps that a huge amount of changes went through.

Oh and it seems the #view thing is a bug... as of 1.7.2 and 1.7.4, tectonicus #view signs always exclusively view straight north. They're supposed to view the way the sign is pointing, but they don't.

I thought you had to include the direction in the sign, along with elevation and angle?

--Patrick
Elevation and angle, yes, but the facing of the sign is supposed to be the facing of the camera.

Incidentally the angle arguments aren't working either. I assume the elevation argument isn't working as well. The sign I planted pointed northeast and had an a80 (angle 80%, looking slightly up) argument that apparently got discarded. The current result is heading 0, elevation 0, angle 90.

New map is up. I took off signs by default. You can turn them back on if you want. You weren't kidding when you said Cranky was bust building.

Can you please put the map link up in the original post or something? I can't remember which page it is, or its URL. Also I like those "static" maps that you make sometimes too!

It's in there now. I'll try to get some static maps made when I update tectonicus too.

You'd be surprised how much black wool is needed to make an accurate 60/1 scale replica of a minecart. I sure have been.

Someone got tired of chasing around my villagers and walled them all off. Spoilsport. :p

Wow, somebody must have spent a lot of time in my neck of the woods in the last 24 hours... logged in to find my chicken generator over capacity (both the chest and the hoppers feeding it were full).

Anybody need feathers? Like, lots and lots of feathers?

Oh I didn' think that at all. Actually, @Dave, he had just asked me to let you know it was him. I was coming to leave you a note when I saw your post. He said he was tired of chasing this one guy down so he ended up fencing them all in.

Last night I began on the final phase of my current construction project. Overall, I'm satisfied on how it's coming together. But dang, I'm constantly underestimating the quantity of materials I need.

I've mainly been working on finishing the projects I started. I'm horrible about finishing the interior of structures I build. I'm getting pretty close to done with my tower and underground bunker.

I'll say this, the advent of cloth carpet is going to save me a LOT of time and materials on my next project. Wish we had it back in the day of Playa del Halforums, when I was building my Governor's Mansion.

I HAD planned to try using diamond blocks for the irises of the eyes in a face I'm constructing... but I forgot diamond blocks are 9 diamonds instead of 4. Yeah, I don't think I'll be coming up with 162 diamonds. Maybe light blue cloth is fine too.

How to get a billion diamonds.

Step 1: Use a silk touch pick on diamond blocks.
Step 2: Once you have a number of them saved, use a fortune III pick.
Step 3: Profit.

I know it would be just as easy to use fortune on the diamond in the first place, but I find if you save them up you're better off as you don't use them. I'm back down to a stack and a half, but if you like I could farm some for you.

I actually recently came into a fortune 3 pick, but my branch mining efforts have not been as lucrative as I'd hoped. I hate to ask but since you're offering, any help toward my goal of 18 blocks would be very appreciated. I'm simultaneously working my way toward a goal of ~600 redstone blocks, but redstone's much easier to come by, as I'm sure everyone knows. I've just been very surprised at how diamond-free my level 10-16 branch mine has been.

I probably already HAVE 600 redstone blocks.

I'll hop on tonight and start strip mining for diamonds. You need a total of 162 diamonds and I think I can start you off with at least a stack and a half, if they haven't been raided too much.[DOUBLEPOST=1392221625,1392221587][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh, and a couple of fortune 3 books I may have laying around.

Heh, thanks. Thus is the disparity between the habitual digger and the habitual builder laid bare, amirite? (Aside from diamonds, I've only been going down digging for specific things I needed for my construction thus far, as opposed to building stockpiles).

I dig like a dwarf and build almost nothing. Hell, most of the stuff I've built is made of wood.

Check with me when I'm on and I'm pretty sure I have a number of diamond blocks as well. Have had to dig a LOT of smooth stone for my current project, and have been finding a decent number of everything.

Gas, I dropped off about 700 redstone blocks in your mailbox. Bad news is that not only do I not have as many diamonds as I used to *ahem* but that I rounded a corner of your place and a creeper blew up...nothing major was damaged other than some tracks, but I didn't know how you had them set up.

Doh! I'll fix it tonight. As long as the perimeter wall is unbreached, should be fine. It was just a very basic rail to serve as slightly quicker transport over to the sheep pen on the other side of the river. It might have got my chicken overflow alarm too, from the sound of it, if the damage looks complex. Thanks for the redstone.
