No, just poorly planned out. What happens to Butler's mustache when he turns into LoLBat? Is it fake?
A previous comic does make it look like he is reattaching it when he resumes his identity. What happens to Butler's mustache when he turns into LoLBat? Is it fake?
Steve Kuntz and the TastemakersMan, this is like seeing a famous band playing, even though there's only one original member of the band left, and they're reduced to playing free shows at dog tracks and state fairs.
Goes to Cons for one thing. I know you can argue he should have had a buffer, but being at a Con is still different from going to the office from 9-5 and not drawing anything. If you're going to complain, at least you could do so accurately. It really wouldn't be so glaring if this wasn't literally his job. This is what he does for a living. If he was doing this outside of some 9-5 job or between contracts as an illustrator / graphic designer or whatever, then an unsteady schedule would be more acceptable. But seriously, he gets up in the morning, goes into his office, doesn't write or draw a comic, then goes home, several days a week. So what the hell does he do?
I think the problem is he wants all the trappings, perks and prestige (what there is of it, in its own way) of being a comic author without actually working on the comic. And it would surprise me if his workflow generates enough revenue to hire somebody to do that for him.If he's having so much trouble meeting deadlines because he is too embroiled in marketing and promotion, then he should hire someone to do his marketing and promotion so he can get back to drawing and comics.

No, I'm saying he's a lazy slob with no work ethic beyond the minimum level of charlatanism that it takes to...So what you're saying is that he is an artist who also aspires to be a good businessman, but fails.

I was referring specifically to the fact that in the last two panels, LOLBat still has a chip on his shoulder. It did make me curious as to whats going to happen next, so I'll call that a win.
Not to mention she is clearly making money off of this... though if they can prove she did it on company time, all of that money goes to the company.Dear lord, Gwen is like LEGIT evil in Trenches. I know Quinn is supposed to be the douche boss and all, but she just straight up stole his idea, made it free to play- JUST so he would give her something to do other than recolor character models. Almost destroying a guy's business just so you have something to do...its really disturbing how much I used to enjoy this character.
That's exactly how this is going to play out isn't it? So- *clap* how long will this farce of a plot last? PLACE YA BETS!Not to mention she is clearly making money off of this... though if they can prove she did it on company time, all of that money goes to the company.
It lasted far too long as of panel 2 of strip 1.That's exactly how this is going to play out isn't it? So- *clap* how long will this farce of a plot last? PLACE YA BETS!
So, we got a brief, strong run of strips, derailed by an LoLBat arc with a six day gap between strips.
I don't make comics for a living. It's a hobby that literally brings in zero income for me. I have a job that takes up most of my day and tends to wear me out. Aside from Monday's filler piece, I've missed exactly one update since my comic launched last July. There are plenty of other hobbyists doing the same thing.
I get that shit happens. I get that other things come up. Travel. Other business. Publicity events. But when you can't produce the material you're so gung-ho to market, you end up failing. A pro gets it done, and right now, there's a lot of hobbyists out producing Kurtz and putting far more coherent and readable material out there.
Wow.
Much Kurtz.
So Lateness.
Too many old scars for me to believe that it's that well-intentioned, especially given how people will exaggerate issues (like that "six day gap" was actually a 4 day gap, with two of those days being the Saturday and Sunday). Other webcomic creators don't get the same treatment. I know people around here know about Kris Straub and read Broodhollow, which hasn't had two fullly updated weeks in a row this year due to the some of the same sorts of reasons Kurtz has (kickstarter management, Cons, and unique to Straub, moving), and yet no one says anything. Which is fine with me, I don't hold it against Straub either, but the inconsistency is there. And that's really the main reason I think so many people give him such shit about it. I know I've said before that Scott Kurtz seems like a pretty talented guy, I hope one day he goes professional.
Straub announced ahead of time there'd be a short hiatus. Kurtz just assumes we'll all continue to visit his site every day even if there's no new content.
