okay gotcha.

I've played a few more matches online this evening. Tell me something did the i.q. of online gaming drop while I've been away or are most people complete assholes?
I was on one server and was playing as a zombie and having fun. Then several player started typing "He doesn't know how to play" Didn't think much of it then a bit
few second later I get voted off for not being as an expert player as they were.

The same was on another server where I playing on the human team doing well working cooperatively then I get kicked
out of that one as well.

Just because I don't play Left 4 Dead righteously like these guys do. They automatically boot the player out? I've come across fewer assholes like that when I play online
via the PSN.

Are most people assholes these days where they dont allow a modicum for allowing new players in or what? Its kind of starting to piss me off.
I'm doubting if I should pick up Left 4 Dead 2 because I'll run into the same assholes.

Unfortunately, Left 4 Dead versus matches are very intimate and very intense, mainly because it's usually a game won literally by inches, not yards (unless you get curb stomped). To win as Infected you need to be in-synch with your team and you really DO need to know what your doing. It's also very apparent when somebody isn't pulling their weight. Is it unfair? Yes. But NO ONE likes to lose because someone else on their team doesn't know how to do their job.

That being said, when you play with us, we'll give you some tips and such since you seem to be having trouble. We're not going to boot you for not being as experienced as the rest of us.

Okay thanks guys. Guess I was getting a bit frustrated. Can you tell me when you guys are playing?
I only have the first Left 4 Dead though currently.

Bear in mind that L4D, being older and slightly less polished than the sequel, has some very well entrenched strategies. I think the standard Infected team in L4D is Smoker/Boomer/Hunter/Hunter. Some Infected teams won't even consider attacking until they have that exact team. And then the strategy is always "Boomer goes first, everyone else cleans up."

L4D2 mixed things up a bit by never giving two Infected players the same SI to play, and adding new SI with new abilities. Charger and Spitter are both game-changers.

Don't feel bad. I never really understand why people do this. It is just a game. (to me it is) play to have fun.

personally I do join random vs game cause I need practice on infected. Since you can't play as infected normally, it is kinda hard to get "good" until you play a lot. I personally wouldn't worry too much about those "elitist" players. Join up another and continue playing.

One of the personal rule is that I never rage quit. If I am going to quit, I'll let the team know and usually because it is either work or social related but not cause I'm fustrated. I will continue to play (even if losing by a huge margin) just cause I can get more practice in :)

I don't think anyone plays L4D at a regular time, but if you want to pick a day or night that's good for you I think it would be awesome to try and get a Versus match going for Death Aboard.

I should be free for a game in the evening.
Cool. I'll start up a lobby in about 15 minutes. Hopefully we'll get enough for an 8 player game, but if not I might try switching to a 4 man lobby and seeing what team the game will match us with.

I was a little frustrated. Wasn't really on my A-game. Plus I had a phone call during one tank fight, and my roommate needed to talk to me during the other. Blah.
Plus I was really pissed that I couldn't do anything as the charger. I didn't see any lag, but I seriously couldn't line up a shot if it were to save my life.

One of our team was complaining about you picking them off, though.

I feel bad about that bad performance as the tank. For some reason whenever I'm in an open area like that (in front of the bumper cars) I struggle to get any shots in.

It might be because survivors can run faster than the tank, so in an open area they have plenty of space to kite the tank around.

In all honesty, they should let the tank break the banisters in front of the bumper cars and toss the cars out into that area. It's damn hard to pop a dumpster over the Bumper Car area and there aren't any throwable objects in the open area, so it's a terrible spot to be a tank. It's bad enough that there aren't ANY in the finale...

Latest Steam update had this among the fixes:

  • Really fixed offline mode not always working
So it wasn't just me having problems with offline mode if my net connection was down.

Finally got "A Wing and a Prayer" last night. Just a few more and I'll be down to the Expert mode ones.
heh. I never really go for achievement. If I get it, cool, if not. no sweat :)

BTW: I am working on new maps now :) hopefully they will be good.

IMO achievement are cool to keep you from getting bored once you've done all the campaigns. Gives you a goal.

@Ash:

If you want to do achievements we should do them together... more fun that way.

Haven't gotten into mods yet... i still have to start doing campaign on expert, but i don't have with who, as you guys are too far and the ping is huge, and i only have 1 person in the area that plays regularly...

Personally I prefer "decent" modded servers to keep me entertained after the "regular" gets boring.
Chibi and I played on an interesting server last night. It had a mod that let you buy upgrades depending on how well you were doing. For instance, if you had accrued 25 points during a single match, you could buy a Witch spawn, or you could could summon a Mega Mob of Zombies for the survivors to fight. Alternatively, if you were a survivor, you could buy items, upgrades like Laser sights, or a specific weapon you wanted. It was pretty fun and interesting.

The server I had found before I stopped playing had a "perks" system for both Survivor and Infected. The mods allowed some of the more useless infected to be more deadly (Jockey speed when riding increased about 50%) and made the games MUCH more intense. The survivor perks would almost guarnatee that the maps would go on to their fullest/longest and really boil down to close matches decided by damage done.

I have an extra machine that I could setup a server, but not sure how to make a custom mod like that (at least where to do it)

No worries, I have access to the server. Once I get my main system back from it's upgrades (Overclock the i7 940 and an overclocked Radeon 5870) I'll be back on L4D.

You gonna add us back to your Friends list? :sneaky:

But seriously, we'll be glad to have you back. It's been hard to get an entirely Halforums game going lately.

Well honestly, I'm going to be getting a fresh copy of L4D2 and a new account soon as I can. The old one is pretty much my brother's at this point (kinda just "gave" it to him as a Christmas/B-Day present).

I will of course be updating my "info" with the new screenname of course.

at least on the bright side, you can FINALLY choose a new login ID that you always wanted.

^ This. You were always complaining about it. At least now you can change it.

Right, so L4D2 keeps crashing and shutting down my monitor (i'm thinking the video card stop transmiting)... i'd say it';s a heat thing, but even with everything on medium it still does it and other games don't do anything no matter how much i play them... doe sValve just hate 8800's?!
