My grandfather wants to get all the family together, so he's paid for all his kids and grandchildren to go on a cruise together in January. (I'm so glad the February date got ruled out. Single on a cruise over Valentine's Day? UGH!)

So, does anyone have any tips or anything I should know about going on a cruise? (Galveston, TX to Cozumel, Mexico) All the arrangements are being made, so I don't have to worry about booking anything, just what to pack and be sure to do and what-not.

Hand sanitizer and Immodium- cruises are notorious for short-term intestinal ailments. How long is the cruise?

Remember: If shit goes down in a big way, the Arks are in China, within a few dozen kilometers of Everest.

Cruise tips?

There are clubs for single people (young adults and adults) it is pretty awesome.
Enjoy the food. Take this opportunity to try many different type of things that you might normally eat. It is all inclusive after all.
Excursions - look for activities, you be surprise who can you meet. Be friendly, meet people.

Alcohol is not included in "all you can drink" generally those are juices and soda. So you would need an alcoholic card or something similar.

Set a limit on yourself when it comes to gambling.

Explore the ship, check out all the ships' activities.

Try to get used to the slight but noticeable swaying.
Strip-sing karaoke.
Buy duty-free goods.

No wait, that's what I do when I go on cruises (Turku-Stockholm, miserable).

I bet you will have a lot more fun than I will. But if possible, enjoy 'all you can eat' offers as much as you can. Shit be expensive on ships.

Okay, uh, thanks for the advice... I think. I don't like traveling much, cuz of my generally poor health, but I love being with my family.

I'd love to really take advantage of the food, but I'm going to have to really watch what I eat if I don't want to feel awful on the trip and run out of energy. I'm getting the idea that a cruise is wasted on me. I've never been to a club in my life, and the idea isn't appealing. I'll probably only drink if it's a glass of champagne for toasting. Gambling holds no appeal for me.

Oh well. My relatives are awesome, and not many people can say that about their whole family. Just keeping up with the 20+ people in our group will keep me busy.

I dare you to re-enact as many Love Boat shenanigans as humanly possible.

Have you ever been on a boat before? If not, you may want to consider taking some Bonine/Dramamine with you or Sea Bands just in case.

Hmm, you've got me thinking. Last time I was on a boat (not counting short trips on a ferry) was 18 years ago. My friend's family had a boat on lake Erie, and I never even got a hint of seasickness there. I'm more prone to motion sickness now than I was back then, but only when I'm dehydrated. I'll make sure to keep up my fluid intake on the trip.
