I went to see a doctor today, for the first time in ages. My family doctor doesn't have a private practice anymore so I got a random doctor I've never had before.

He never even introduced himself. I told him the main reason I was there was that with my trip to Beijing coming up I wanted to make sure the smog wasn't going to be a big problem for me, as I used to take inhalers when I was younger. He just wrote me a prescription for two inhalers without even so much as listening to my chest or anything.

To add to it, my insurance company never got my fax from last week, so I actually had to PAY for the inhalers, at least until I re-fax my papers.

So, I had a site today whose printer was not working. Nothing would print. I'm going through the usual initial troubleshooting crap, when they let slip that it has not been printing since February. They further claim that they had called in on this before and nothing was done. So, I checked the site history and not only had they NOT called in about it, they hadn't called about ANYTHING since last December. I checked their print queue and they had 2016 documents waiting in the queue.

The solution? I had them reset the network cable at the back of the printer. It began printing after that.

I get a lot of those calls. "..., This printer has not work in 3 months! Come fix it now!"

"Well that is news to me, what's the rush NOW?"

I heard about this a few days ago. It was so shocking, and I just read about it again today. A girl I went to school with was in South Africa with her family for the world cup, and she was killed in a hit and run down there. Her brother was hit too, and he's in a coma. It's so sad. We were a small class, really close-knit, and a lot of people are rallying around--families, local businesses, everyone. Home Bank down here has set up a fund for the family, because insurance isn't covering what it's going to cost to get their son out of South Africa on a special plane. :( I feel so sorry for them, but I'm glad that people are helping.

I'm sorry to hear that, CG. And all that distance makes it so hard.

some white guy gave me crap about my Geronimo shirt today. Fucker.
It's like some people can't mind their own business anymore. They see something, a tiny inkling of thought manifests in their head, and they go "Hey, I'm me, and I have an opinion, and everyone will want to know and value my opinion, because it's mine and from me!"

And perhaps throw in an "In America!"

Thanks for putting the Cartoon Network HD channel back on Pacific Time, Cox! Now I can't watch Adult Swim anymore and there is nothing else of interest on TV. FUCK YOU COX!!!

Had a spare hard drive I was using as a backup drive in a sort of cartridge setup, so I decided to clear it out and give the Kalyway hackintosh install a try. As I was going through the install, I could start to smell cooking electrics, but I couldn't quite place the source. It seemed to be coming from somewhere other than the PC.

After only a couple minor glitches that were easily remedied, I got OSX up and running on my HP desktop PC. Just after that, the PSU gave up and the computer snapped off. There's a little green light in the back that shows when the PSU is receiving power. It's out and has been for the last hour. I'm hoping it's a set time-out for it to recover, but I'm not holding out hope.

Add to that, it's 6am, i've been up since 3 yesterday afternoon, and Best Buy won't open until at least 9. I wanna go to sleep, but that power supply will nag at me until it's fixed. :Leyla:

This has been a stressssssful day!

They gave me a trainee =)
I think he's a little dumb =(

He has been in training for more than a week with someone else (a really good trainer, actually) Now he needs some "hands-on" training and he really puts my patience to the test, his english is hooorrible, everybody has a hard time understanding him and I get frustrated after I've told him over and over how to follow the steps and he doesn't. He's slooooow even when he's just speaking and I'm used to doing everything really fast. I know our procedures (and our horrible system) are not easy, but it's no brain surgery, man!! :S

It also feels weird being a 20 year old training a 40 year old... who's a little dumb u_u

I'm sorry, what were you saying? For some reason I keep getting to "hands on", and then I find my mind wandering. Damndest thing.

ARGH don't you hate when you ask a seemingly innocent question that ends up making someone talk about a painful memory?!

My professor this morning used a girl named Olivia for a lot of his teaching examples today. He never mentioned his relationship with her, but I assumed granddaughter, because he's in his late 60s, maybe older. So I was turning something in at the end of class and decided just to ask, "You speak very fondly of Olivia--who is she, your granddaughter?" To which he responds (pretty much verbatim):

"Oh, well, legally she's my daughter. Her parents both died before she even got to leave the hospital. My second wife--my first wife has passed--has no relation to this little girl. But we're a nice family. I have almost no family left except Olivia (insert happy-yet-sad old guy smile here). So then he told me a couple of stories about Olivia and how they're exactly alike--early risers, mischievous, curious, etc. He's such a sweet man... and now I feel bad. :\ I mean, I know he's ok, but I hate when that happens!

FUUUUUUUUUU...

It's not the power supply. I got a replacement at Best Buy. No response. I plugged in the old PSU with no computer attached. It's fine. So it's got to be a fried motherboard. I'm going to hook up the old PSU just to confirm.

Fortunately, all my windows drives were out of harm's way when this all happened. I'm looking at the attempted install of Kalyway (a flavor of hackintosh) as the likely culprit.

I knew it - Gen loves the Cox.

Ahem.

On Route 22 Westbound between Bethlehem and Allentown, there's a huge billboard with a red background and white text, reading: "36A", then underneath in somewhat smaller lettering, "We Can Fix That". It's for the "Aesthetic Surgery Center" or something to that effect. I just find the tone in the statement a little off-putting, honestly. Like girls that aren't buxom are a mistake, you know?

There's a sign in one of the malls here that shows a scale reading "Too Fat" with the person standing on it. The caption is "Call us when you scale says this." Also for a cosmetic surgery doctor.

More than a little insulting, I do declare.

Gaaaahhhhh... Jesus Mary-boinking Christ, I think the level of stupid in the telemarketing firm where I've worked for summers has gone up in the past year. Or at least they're bullshitting their employees like there's no tomorrow and calling it 'improvements'.

First, they raised the minimum monthly sale figure, meaning that it is now slightly more cutthroat: people struggling to get the minimum sales (€25 per hour at the end of the month) have more trouble when it was just €22, meaning that in the first weeks there's a helluva lot of people who drop out because they have trouble reaching that limit.

Second, they moved to a system of daily bonuses instead of weekly bonuses, meaning people can make small bonuses (€5-€50 a day, though few get past €15 often) based on sales. Which means that there's a lot of 'useless euros' as if you lack just a euro or two from a bonus threshold at the end of the day, those excess euros don't count for any kind of bonus. They say it's supposed to motivate people because now they can make bonuses every day; I think they are just trying to find a cheaper way to keep people motivated.

And this week: first I'm told that the eve of midsummer (that's this Friday), which is traditionally a day-off, is now a full working day. Today, they ask for sign-ups for Friday, saying there'll be pizza and stuff... the same incentives they use for getting people to work extra on Saturdays. So I go to the boss and ask which is it, is the eve a working day or a chance to get some extra dime. He looks uncomfortable and gives me some bullshit about it being "a bit of both, but the company expects people to come to work" - despite the fact that common sense says there ain't many people who want to listen to a telemarketer on the frickin' high point of the summer! Jesus bloody Christ, man, if you're trying to fuck me over, at least try to pretend you're not insulting my intelligence to boot!

I'm taking Friday off. My contract ends at the end of the month anyway...
