I see a lot of posts here about technical issues, which I'm always happy to know about before investing in a new game; but how's the game itself, once you get logged in?

Amazing.

I've spent more time playing this game than any other game this year, and it's only a week old.

Same, with the exception of Skyrim I think. I had one issue during pre-launch, but it was fixed the next day. Not really sure what was happening. Other than that, it runs flawlessly, at least for me.

Excellent, now I'll know what to order if/when I get bored with WoW again (though I'll likely keep paying for WoW this time so I can still qualify for my free copy of Diablo 3 and the beta for MoP). Now the only question will be whether I'll play SW:ToR or Skyrim first.

People thought that about WoW, and it just kept growing and required even more and more servers even after the first rabid deployment that happened at launch. The servers WoW has now are over four times what they had originally. I think if the game is going to be as popular as people hope it would, then they need to assume the population will keep growing rather then shrink. The hype alone should have told them that.

It may very well be that many lose interest, and they wouldn't need the extra servers in the long run, but I would rather they invest into the servers and just merge them later then have the playerbase wait in gigantic queues. They can just sell the servers again to other companies/divisions or repurpose them for other games if they find they don't need them. This is actually one of the reasons I have already given up on DCU, because I found myself stuck in a queue most nights and decided to instead play other games.
And WoW is unique that way. I think Bioware and EA are smart enough to know that WoW is unique that way and aren't going to bother with buying more expensive ass servers unless they need to. I'm sure if this continues they will.

I am probably going to be one of the only people that makes a Soldier. Screw all you Luke, Boba, and Han wannabes.
I'm really liking my Trooper. I went Vanguard, so I have some heals too, which has proven vital in the Flashpoints. Besides, the armor is awesome looking post 15.

Question! My comp seems ok for system requirements, but from what I've heard, its really intense on the system. If I can run Skyrim on high settings, I should be able to run this too, yes?

Also, I sent an email asking if I could play in China. They responded saying they werent restricting access to their servers, so no matter where I am, I should be able to play. Oddly enough however, they don't have the same rule for their website, as their website informs me I can't buy the game because I'm not in an authorized region so...wtf mate?

Edit: To clarify--this is what I get if I try to go directly to the buying page:

Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is not available in your region

Lawl.

I really like my Trooper too. My main is a Sith Inquisitor/ Sorcerer but I think I may like the Trooper just as much!

Yup. I've already sent the ONLY RELIC I'VE FOUND to a friend because I'm completely Light Side and couldn't use it.

Is there really gear based on Alignment? If so, that's awesome.
It mostly seems to be crystals and relics, but the vendors also sell a few pieces of armor that restricted as well. I had great fun using my Dark side relic to give my character an evil red glow. When we RPed the Dark/Light decision during the Athsis Flashpoint, I used it as I urged the others to destroy the beacon and let the survivors die. Really surprised them, as they hadn't seen relics yet.

There are vendors that sell Light/Dark side restricted gear.
You can also get them with merits. I think it's 12 and you get a random purple relic box.

Yes, there are lightsabers restricted to people who are certain levels into the Dark or Light. I am currently at Dark II and have found lightsabers that were restricted to Light I or above, so could not use them.

Which is neat and gay at the same time.

For example, evil Sith guy vs me and a buddy, we kill him, he drops a purple.... requires Light 2.

WTF man.

So, despite my hate for EA's terrible customer service, this game was purchased for me as a gift. Now I just need to activate my key and subscription. Two hours later, I'm still trying to do so.

Cool.

What problem are you having? If it was this morning, you may have to wait, as the servers were down for maintenance.

It took me like two minutes to activate and subscribe.

IIRC, the servers returned at 8am Central, which was when I began entering my information. Each time, I would wait through 10+ minutes of a queue, enter some information on pages that were loading slower than 33.6k modem speed, then at some point receive a 503 error or a page that failed to load correctly, causing me to start over (because hitting my refresh button would point me back to the starting point). By 8:40, I had my key entered and my credit card information stored, but it took me until 10:30ish to actually confirm the subscription. That's nearly two hours of trying to load a page with a single checkbox for the Terms of Service.

I was displeased, but it did finally take, so I guess that's over.

That's called, a lot of people waiting until the last minute to register their shit, and thus all doing it at exactly the same time.

And it's more than that, too. I got a small fang off of a Giant Bormu while on Ballmora.

For those who don't know, those things are the size of semi trucks with trailers.

Kinda wish they had implemented the Legacy stuff already. Without any confirmation on what exactly we'll be getting, I'm not entirely sure if I should wait to start a new character (for the new face options) or do it now (and fill my Legacy bar). Also, why the hell doesn't your already acquired XP go towards Legacy?

I can confirm, however, that going from 1-17 is enough to fill your first level of Legacy to halfway.

Just waited 30 minutes for the stupid Jawa Balloon on Tatooine to take me over the Sandcrawler so I could get the Datacrons there. I get on and wait about 20 for it get where I need it to go. It then glitches out about 5 minutes from the crawler, deposits me on the ground, and immobilizes me. I then had to run back, wait another 30 minutes for the Balloon to return, then another 25 for it to get over the crawler again.

Total time? Almost 2 hours. I am REALLY fucking glad I got both datacrons on my first go, as one of them had a datacron fragment in it.

So... After making a ton of alts, I finally have a few favorites to main, and just got my first starship.

Yeah, I don't think I'm ever going back to WoW

Oh, and if anyone is playing on the rp realm "sanctum of the exalted" then let me know, I've got republic and imperial characters there.

This exactly happened to me, but with added frustration. The first time I rode the balloon, I got there no problem and got the matrix shard, but overjumped the ledge wen I tried to drop down to the Strength datacron.

So I quested for a bit and got back on the balloon, rode it for 15 minutes or so, but glitched through it when I alt-tabbed to turn on iTunes.

The third time I was finally successful in getting the second cron, because there were 7 other people on the balloon with me, including a Smuggler (!). Fortunately, everyone on my server knows what a pain in the ass this trip is and there's a pretty well-enforced "ceasefire" at the balloon and platform. Anyway, I watched these other people walk backwards off the crawler onto the ledge, which worked perfectly for all of us.

As far as legacy stuff, I was able to get the Gusto name. :D The end of the Bounty Hunter first act was very satisfying and incredible, and left me with the greatest light side decision I've had so far. :)

Maybe people would buy stuff on the market if the interface for it wasn't the biggest pile of poo ever. Can't wait till the patch that fixes it. (lololol)

I literally sell nothing but Exceptional Blue guns and Purple guns. These things should be FLYING off the market, especially considering modded purple stuff is generally better than most artifact stuff.

I am SO happy that no one spoiled the Foundry for me or my friends, and that we all ran it together.

INCREDIBLY satisfying flashpoint.

I'll be firing up my brothers account tonight to make sure this is playable from China. My family is all playing on a PVP server
