I bet that human spent all his loot on mead and wenches instead of bettering himself.
Nope. Heavy armor, shield and a +1 scimitar. It was the tiefling's player who wanted to buy a flute that summons rat swarms, even though I specifically told him we'd be pretty much stuck in the wilderness for a while. In the end he settled for a hat that makes the sorceress look like a regular person.

Answering the question kinda ruins the joke, you know.

But i have to ask, why are there no rats in the wilderness?

IRL, or in a game?

IRL I'd guess that rodent populations don't reach the insane levels that they can in Human cities because of their natural predators in the wild, which are bigger and potentially dangerous to humans, which are therefore kept down by people in cities, letting the rats go unchecked. But that's a guess, not authoritative in any way.

I meant in his game... we had enough rats up in the mountains to drown one each morning with no apparent effect on their population, and we where the only constant human food source for at least 2 miles, unless they can eat dried grass, like horses.

In cities they just have a more concentrated food source they swarm around, so they just seem more (unless you dont have homeless cats i guess, we have plenty).

So no Sword of Frost outside the Arctic circle?

(did it's description say it required sewers or something?)

I believe the text said that it could summon rat swarms in their usual habitat - which I interpreted as being mostly in areas where rats are plentiful, such as major cities.

I believe my problem with that was that cities are hardly the only habitat they do well in... rodents where pretty well of before we invented cities you know.

Not in that world; far too many more dangerous foes than stray cats out there. Or, otherwise said, DM ruled it so :p

That aside, a one-human-minimum would apperciatively improve republican party meetings. I mean, don't they ever get bored of playing all those half-fiends, thieflings and half-orcs? :p

Well, if we're going to start equating fantasy races with RL politicians... let's see now...

Dennis Kucinich: gnome
Obama: high-CHA human
Romney: dwarf
Joe Biden: lich
Dick Cheney: pit fiend
Bill Clinton: halfling bard

I tend to say half-elf for Obama (high-CHA but wimpy :p) and Chaos Dwarf or something for Romney...No way is he Lawful Good or Neutral :p

Yeah, but wouldn't the high low lvl adventurer ratio also mean that sewer rats would be the most hunted animal in the world also?

He's True Neutral... he takes all stances at once and none at all...

*sigh*

Goddammit, I was trying to avoid the hassle that comes with summoned monsters, particularly since this was a lvl 1 group. I checked just now, yes, rat swarms can be found in any environment, but I'm trying to give my players something more interesting to fight and encounter. And to avoid them trying to loot the corpses of goddamn rats!

Seriously, I had them roll Fortitude to see if they get filth fever from trying to find gold coins inside the diseased dire rats they just killed...
