[TV] Winter HAS COME! - A Game of Thrones

Someone made the apt observation that Brann was the true villain of the series.

The idea goes that he was influencing all the events over the past few years using his powers, basically setting himself up to be King. The Night King was not trying to kill him because he was the embodiment of man's history, he was trying to kill him because he knew Brann was the only one powerful enough to actually challenge his own ascension. I mean everything, the whole Azor Prophecy, the Red Priestess mistakingly choosing Stannis, even Jaime pushing him out the window. It was all ultimately setup for him to take the Throne, though to be fair, possibly with benevolent reasons, as he embodies the perfect King that Varys always hoped for, one that isn't tainted by feelings or desire. It's still messed up if he did cause all those things though, since it means he got a big chunk of his family killed. (plus, you know, drove Dany to burn down almost all of King's Landing through his manipulations)

I am surprisingly fine with this finale. Under other circumstances, probably not, but given how this season was going, it was better than I thought it was going to be.

EDIT: Hang on, one thing:
Mr. Z and I were both hoping Drogon was going to set Jon on fire. THAT would have been a surprise twist and the quality I've come to expect over the years. Pity.
My personal headcanon is that dragons can't attack Targaryens. Drogon wanted to torch Jon for killing Dany but couldn't.

I'm glad I have all you fuckers to fall back on, because my human friends are tired of my complaints about that horrible horrible series finale.

Yes, I'm beating a dead horse, because if they win an Emmy for their writing, all hope is lost.

I think it's hilarious that they put Lena Heady up for best supporting actress. ANY OTHER SEASON SURE. This one? Fuck off. She stared out windows for 3 episodes then died.

Mr. Z watched the 1st season, quit because it no longer had Sean Bean, and watched the 8th season with my mother and I. At first he was fine with the 8th season because it moved along briskly for his taste. But afterwards he decided to go back and binge the earlier seasons, and I quote:

"I get why everyone's so upset. If I watched this in real time, I'd be fucking pissed about season 8!"

The Winds of Winter is done! It's been written & it's available now!! And so is A Dream of Spring!!!

What, no, GRRM didn't write them. Don't be ridiculous. ChatGPT did. WoW is available here & DoS here.

Had me in the first 1/2 second, not going to lie.
Anyone an idea if they're any good? I skipped through and read a few paragraphs here and there and it was coherent and, though a bit heavy, readable....

“ Jon's eyes, reflecting the flickering firelight, held a resolute determination. "I will not forsake my subversions of expectations or the subversions of expectations that define me. The subversion of expectations that led me to the Night's Watch will guide me in the subversions of expectations that lie ahead. Together, we shall weather the storm of subversion of expectations and emerge stronger."

Every sentence after that for quite some time has the words “subversion of expectations” in it. It’s quite amazing. It’s like that moron at your work that learns a new word and feels he has to use it in every sentence regardless of meaning or syntax.

Or like the first 2 episodes of Harley Quinn with the word "Fuck" :D
