Democratic Primary: Crisis of infinite candidates

Bernie will remain on the ballot but won't be campaigning. I don't see that being a winning strategy, more a flex on how many delegates he can get without any additional work.

Though if he managed to get more than Biden, the DNC would just pull superdelegate shenanigans.

Wisconsin election was a joke. Forced to vote during a pandemic, absentee ballots held up by the post office, the bullshit with the GOP and the supreme court. the whole thing is a clusterfuck. Get ready, it's going National.

But fuck it, it's the best chance we have to beat Trump, and he's the worst thing we've seen for 4 years, and another 4 years is too much to ask of Ruth Baeder Ginsburg, and fuck anyone who makes her try to stick it out another 4 years. Seriously, go fuck yourself if you think she hasn't done enough.

Has Biden ever been accused of rape? Seriously asking - maybe he has and I'm not aware.
I know I'm going to get some "doing the Thing" ratings again, but sexual misconduct, sexism, sexual harassment, are not rape. They're in no way OK or acceptable, but calling every sexual offender a rapist or calling every case of sexual violence rape, is like calling manslaughter, wrongful death, and battery all "murder". They're not, and the modern trend of wanting to equate all of them to the very worst diminishes and confuses the issue.

Not saying asking rape victims to vote for a sexual harasser is OK, or that sexual harassment is acceptable or "not that bad", or any of that. Proper use of terminology matters. A bad off-olor joke is wrong but not the same as racial industrial genocide - calling both racism has turned that whole debate into a minefield of miscommunication. We're doing the same thing all over again for sxual abuse and violence, and it's not helping.

If people still need "convinced" or "won over" after four years of this shit, then fuck 'em. All they deserve is a punch in a mouth for being Too Stupid To Live.

And yet after 244 years, people still think that "poor people shouldn't die of treatable conditions" is a radical idea.

Anyone thinking Biden = Trump, they're oblivious to the scale of damage the Trump administration has caused.

I have little faith Biden can win, but people still need to get out and flip the Senate.

I've yet to hear a positive case for Biden that isn't "he's not Donald Trump and will do what the DNC tells him to." That isn't an affirmation, that's contentment with a return to the pre-Trump status quo. I don't want that. I want politicians that have actually learned from 4 years of Trump and the COVID-19 pandemic that capitalism has deep seated flaws that need addressed or we're just waiting for the next disaster to get even more people killed.

Biden wasn’t my first choice, but I don’t think he’s a terrible choice.

I think he’s far more likely to get progressive legislation passed than Bernie, ironically. Bernie is very combative, and that doesn’t inspire cooperation. Biden won’t go full progressive, but he will sign bills that go in that direction.

I also see him as more capable of building a successful diplomatic machine than Bernie, again, largely based on personality. It won’t be glamorous, but he’ll get it done and rebuild relationships with allies.

I also think Biden is willing to draw on a larger talent pool for administration positions than Bernie. I honestly believe Bernie would have steeper ideological tests for his officials.

And, finally, I think Biden is more willing to learn from mistakes. He’s apologized for things he’s done, and it does seem like he’s been trying to be better. I don’t get that feeling from any of the other candidates.

A lot will depend on Congress.
With a democratic Senate, I can certainly see Biden revising and expanding Obamacare - not enough for the left, sure, but significantly.

In a shock to no one, he followed through with exactly none of his promises. Truly a billionaire.
Look, corona had no doubt severely hurt him financially. He may have lost millions! Some sacrifices had to be made.
Not by him, obviously, but still.

I definitely don't think Biden = Trump, I just think some of us were wishing we could move farther towards real progressive change, and get frustrated when we just seem to either lean farther towards fascist tendencies or just rubberband back to the status quo. That was my biggest criticism of Obama, as I felt he made a lot of promises to improve peoples lives, and the best he got was a watered down Romneycare healthcare system that we still fight over to this day.

I wish to iterate that I used to be a Republican, believe it or not, back in the day. I went independent for a long time until we got stuck in the "Forever War" and basically got disenfranchised. I still don't prefer government to interfere too much in people's lives, but I do believe the one function the government, above all else, needs to handle is the welfare of it's citizens and those who seek asylum. I feel both the RNC and DNC give themselves too much to special interests, while the rest of the citizens suffer poverty, caused by stagnate wages, increased wage gap, etc. I think many of us saw Bernie as a change to the system away from those interests, and Biden instead embodies the same old thing.

In the end I would rather have the old status quo then the last four years of insanity, I just don't think we will see anything get fixed though. It feels like a band-aid on a gushing wound. It's better then bleeding out, but it's not going to last forever. The system needs to change, otherwise we might get someone worst then Trump someday.

Humor aside, I think the sentiment is actually pretty good. Sure, Bernie's not running for president any more, but the ideas Bernie espoused and represented can still live on, as long as there are still people who believe in them.

I'd like to somehow get back to when a doctor couldn't refuse to treat me because of their pretend religious beliefs.
Where's that advice from a teacher to a bunch of med students where, when asked whether it's okay to refuse treatment due to personal beliefs, the teacher's answer is, "Find another profession!"

I'm not voting for Biden. I'm voting for Ruth Baeder Ginsburg. She's earned it and then some.
I'm seriously afraid that Biden will replace her with some late-60s-early-70s moderate, who will then be replaced in 5-10 years with another sexual offender racist piece of crap. A Democratic House and Senate, and putting in a 35 year old left winger may be all that stops your country from the fascist theocracy it's slowly becoming.

Waiting for the day I can plan to vote for AOC in the Democratic primary, only for the DNC to head her off at the pass for bring a progressive before my state's primary is even held.

So apparently Biden is coming out in favor of expanding Medicare (to people at 60 instead of 65) and forgiving Student Debt. That's a better direction, but call me when he's onboard for single payer.

What I don't understand are those left-leaning folks who are all like "Give me exactly what I want, or I'm gonna vote for the guy who'll give me nothing of what I want"

Those people are dumb, but there is a reason to keep demanding change even if a little is being made. Well meaning centrists talk about baby steps, but baby steps aren't made with the intention of only having baby steps. They happen when trying for full blown long striding improving the lives of people steps
