Former President Trump Thread

This is a good time to remind everyone of just how corrupt Vince is, in that his multi-million dollar company, he signs each and every wrestler as an independent contractor so that they don't have to offer them any benefits, like healthcare.

...He really does not understand how the Constitution works, does he?

EDIT: Apparently I keep forgetting Article II, Section 3.

Section 3. He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in case of disagreement between them, with respect to the time of adjournment, he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper; he shall receive ambassadors and other public ministers; he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed, and shall commission all the officers of the United States.
Oh dear God.

House and Senate are in agreement regarding the time of adjournment--neither Democrat nor Republican congresspeople want to lose their influence in adjudicating those positions, as that influence translates to both policy-making ability and lobbyist money. Executive and Congress don't need to be in agreement. Any attempt to use this power should just end with the Democrat-controlled House refusing to adjourn, and a long court battle. Or, alternatively, McConnell kneels and moves to adjourn (then setting up a House/Senate dispute that can be resolved by POTUS).

(soft paywall..you should be able to open the link in a private window to read).

Summation: Republicans have founded The Lincoln Project, whose goal is the defeat of Trump in November.

Today, the United States is beset with a president who was unprepared for the burden of the presidency and who has made plain his deficits in leadership, management, intelligence and morality.

When we founded the Lincoln Project, we did so with a clear mission: to defeat President Trump in November. Publicly supporting a Democratic nominee for president is a first for all of us. We are in extraordinary times, and we have chosen to put country over party — and former vice president Joe Biden is the candidate who we believe will do the same.

Grift both sides.
Hmm, seems one side grifts much, much harder than the other.
Kimberly Guilfoyle, the girlfriend of eldest son Donald Trump Jr., and Lara Trump, wife of middle son Eric Trump, are each receiving $15,000 a month, according to two GOP sources who are informal White House advisers and who spoke on condition of anonymity. [...] Numerous RNC officials and members did not respond to HuffPost queries about the arrangement. One who did, Arizona committee member Bruce Ash, wrote: “Drop dead!”

The only thing about this that would surprise me would be if a Republican did anything more than a Strongly Worded Tweet in response.

Right now the big thing trending on Facebook and through the conservative circles is a meme about how Trump wants to repeal the payroll taxes and democrats are against it. So, of course, democrats are against the working man.

Of course, the meme leaves a lot to be desired as many memes do. Payroll taxes are what funds social security and medicare. Employers match employee contributions. Can you see where I'm going here? Trump doesn't want to do this to help out workers, he wants to (1) stop businesses from having to pay taxes and (2) defund medicare and social security. Remove safety nets and enrich his already wealthy friends. This is the Trumpiest thing that ever Trumped a Trump. And yet short-sighted stupid people are all over this.

I give up.

It doesn't. It helps businesses not have to pay payroll taxes for those people still working. But here's the thing. It's good in the short term so they are going to want to long-term it or eliminate it altogether. That's their aim. If they do that then there's no money for unemployment, social security, or medicare. So we better get rid of them!

What are payroll taxes?
The money taken in payroll taxes go to three things: Social Security, Medicare and unemployment insurance. Every pay period, salaried workers pay 6.2% of their gross annual income up to $137,700 for Social Security. Their employer also pays a 6.2% tax. Overall, employers and employees pay a 12.4% combined Social Security tax.

Workers pay 1.45% for Medicare taxes and employers pay 1.45%. Combined, they pay 2.9% in Medicare taxes. Workers making $200,000 a year and above (or married couples making $250,000) pay an additional 0.9% in Medicare taxes. Employers also pay 6% on the first $7,000 of a worker’s wages; they may also have to pay state unemployment taxes, depending on the state.

Payroll taxes produced $914 billion in tax revenue for Social Security during fiscal year 2019, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The taxes also generated $278 billion for Medicare and $41 billion for unemployment insurance, the office said.

Everybody always wants less taxes.
As long as the bits they use/take advantage of are still being taken care of (say, roads, sewage systems), all those other bits should just be stopped.
It doesn't work that way, but it sounds good to people who don't think any further.
Also, there is always major wastage in stuff you don't care about.

The worst part is the guy that I'm arguing with about this has a disabled brother who is dependent on the social safety net since he's got almost total paralysis. He's a big "taxation is theft" guy and he's just...dumb.
