Former President Trump Thread

I have never once locked a political thread.

Even your own left-leaning source (CBPP is famously pro-redistribution) acknowledges that Social Security IS pay-as-you-go, just like a ponzi scheme. Even if the historical surplus HAS been put into treasury bonds, that is literally just the mechanism to move the money out of SS and into the general coffers where it has been spent. Historically, the government has made good on its bonds... going forward? I'm not so sure I'm as confident on that as I once was, and even if they do, your source once again points out that that "surplus" is 15 years from being completely depleted.
So no disputing anything that I actually said. Instead shifting the goal posts to "Well the Trust fund won't last forever" despite the trust fund lasting forever never being part of the argument before you realized that the SSA never prepared for the baby boomers retiring was unsustainable.

Even my parents knew (and have been warning me) since I was 6 years old that I had little to no chance to actually collect social security when I retire.
Explains a lot.

But hey, maybe COVID-19 will fix social security.
Surprised that COVID-19 would solve the Social security problem the same way Libertarians would by having them die in massive numbers. Unsurprised that you seemingly have little problem with this solution.

Entirely not what I said, but thanks for playing. What I said was that the "trust fund" is a shell game, leaning on the rep of Treasury bonds to seem legit, when it is, in fact, an IOU, no matter how much the CBPP would have you believe otherwise - and they'd like us to.

Do I need to start putting humor tags around my gallows humor for forum users incapable of detecting it?

From your statement

your source once again points out that that "surplus" is 15 years from being completely depleted.
So that is in fact something that you have in fact said.

Now if you want to talk about how Republicans raided the fuck out of the social security trust fund for tax cuts and the utterly worthless Iraw war that you still believe was worth it we can definitely talk about that.

Do I need to start putting humor tags around my gallows humor for forum users incapable of detecting it?
I knew you were trying to make a joke. I'm not convinced you don't believe it you ghoul.

Yeah, as in pointed out before, the money you have in the bank is also an IOU, because they don't actually have the liquidity to pay everyone if they all wanted it at once.

Hell, the whole concept of legal tender is based on using pieces of painted paper or engraved tiny pieces of metal to represent how much stuff you should be able to get based on your efforts at working.

So as long as your country still has the higher GDP in the world, i'm pretty sure actual objective reasons not to pay you your SS in old age won't exist.

I THINK IT'S A GREAT QUESTION. THERE IS BIPARTISANSHIP. WE ARE GETTING THE PAYCHECK PLAN -- THE 300 $50 BILLION WAS APPROVED ESSENTIALLY UNANIMOUSLY. ANOTHER 250 -- I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE A HIGHER NUMBER THAN THAT. I THINK IT'S GOING TO END UP BEING MORE THAN $250 BILLION. THIS IS GOING TO SMALL BUSINESSES AND WORKERS. THESE ARE BIPARTISAN PLANS. IT'S A GREAT THING HAPPENING, SO I THINK THE FACT THAT WE CAN DO ALL OF THIS IN A BIPARTISAN WAY IS GREAT. THE TAX CUTS THE REPUBLICANS DID, WE HAD NO HELP FROM THE DEMOCRATS, SO YOU CANNOT SAY THAT'S BIPARTISAN. BUT THIS WHOLE THING, GETTING OUR COUNTRY BACK, NANCY PELOSI IS VERY NASTY. SHE WASTED A LOT OF TIME WITH IMPEACHMENT, WHICH WAS A TOTAL HOAX, WENT NOWHERE. AND THAT WAS NOT GOOD. AND SCHUMER, I GUESS, SAME THING, BUT HE SORT OF ACCEPTED IT. HE JUST DID WHAT HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DO, AND HE DIDN'T DO VERY WELL WITH IT. THAT WAS NOT APPROPRIATE. THAT WAS A BAD THING FOR OUR COUNTRY. THEY HAD THE MAJORITY SO THEY DECIDED TO STIRRED UP. THEY RACED WASTED A YEAR -- THEY COULD'VE BEEN DOING THINGS THAT WERE GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKING INTO CHINA. THE DEMOCRATS WERE WASTING TIME. I THINK WE HAVE HAD A GREAT SPIRIT OF BIPARTISANSHIP. I WOULD NOT SAY WE ARE GOING TO SET A RECORD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, BUT THINGS ARE HAPPENING THAT ARE VERY GOOD. THE COUNTRY IS COMING TOGETHER. THE PEOPLE ARE COMING TOGETHER. I THINK YOU WILL FIND OUR COUNTRY IS MUCH MORE UNIFIED. I THINK THE PRESS, THE MEDIA FOMENTS A LOT OF ANGER. I REALLY BELIEVE IT FERMENTS TREMENDOUS ANGER. I WILL BE ASKED A TREMENDOUSLY HOSTILE QUESTION FROM SOMEBODY AND I WILL ANSWER IN A HOSTILE WAY, WHICH IS APPROPRIATE, OTHERWISE, YOU LOOK FOOLISH. I CAN'T DO THAT. A LOT OF THESE QUESTIONS ARE ASKED FROM CERTAIN NETWORKS, SO HOSTILE, AND THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT. WE ARE IN A WAR. THIS IS A WORLD WAR II. THIS IS A WORLD WAR I. BY THE WAY, THE WAR ESSENTIALLY ENDED BECAUSE OF A PLAGUE THAT WAS ONE OF THE WORST EVER, ALMOST 100 MILLION PEOPLE. BUT WE ARE IN A BIG WAR. I WILL SAY ONE THING ABOUT -- BECAUSE I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT. THE LAST PERSON -- I DID IT EARLY, BUT I WAS THE LAST PERSON THAT WANTED TO CLOSE DOWN ONE OF THE GREAT ECONOMIC -- YOU CANNOT CALL IT AN EXPERIMENT, BUT EVERYTHING IN LIFE, I GUESS, IS AN EXPERIMENT. ONE OF THE GREATEST ECONOMIC STORIES IN HISTORY. I'M THE LAST PERSON THAT WANTED TO DO IT, BUT WE DID THE RIGHT THING. IF WE DIDN'T DO IT, YOU WOULD'VE HAD A MILLION PEOPLE, A MILLION AND A HALF PEOPLE, MAY BE 2 MILLION PEOPLE DEAD. WE ARE GOING TOWARD 50 I AM HEARING, OR 60,000 PEOPLE. ONE IS TOO MANY, I ALWAYS SAY IT. ONE IS TOO MANY, BUT WE ARE GOING TOWARD 50,000 OR 60,000 PEOPLE. THAT IS AT THE LOWER -- AS YOU KNOW, THE LOW NUMBER WAS SUPPOSED TO BE 100,000 PEOPLE. WE COULD END UP AT 50 TO 60. IT'S HORRIBLE. IF WE DIDN'T DO WHAT WE DID, WE WOULD'VE HAD, I THINK, A MILLION PEOPLE, MAYBE 2 MILLION, MAY BE THAN THAT. AND YOU LOOK AT -- THERE IS ONE COUNTRY IN PARTICULAR THAT SAID LET'S SWING IT. THEY ARE BEING INUNDATED WITH DEATH. IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE HOSPITALS WHERE -- ONE OF THEM I KNEW, GROWING UP IN QUEENS, AND I AM LOOKING AT THE BODIES LYING IN HALLWAYS, BEING BROUGHT INTO REFRIGERATED TRUCKS. MULTIPLY THAT TIMES 10. IT'S NOT SUSTAINABLE. IN MANY OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE THIS FEAR, LET'S, MAYBE WE COULD HAVE GONE RIGHT THROUGH IT. I WAS SOMEBODY THAT WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE DONE THAT, BUT IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SUSTAINABLE. YOU CAN'T LOSE A MILLION PEOPLE. THAT'S ALMOST DOUBLE WHAT WE LOST IN THE CIVIL WAR. I USE THAT AS A GUIDE. CIVIL WAR, 600,000 PEOPLE DIED. SO IT'S NOT SUSTAINABLE. IF YOU TOOK THAT NUMBER AND CUT IT OUT HALF AND HALF AND HALF AGAIN. YOU WOULD END UP AT 500,000 PEOPLE IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A CONSERVATIVE GUESSTIMATE. 500 THOUSAND PEOPLE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. REMEMBER THIS. WHEN WE COMPARE 52 -- WHEN WE COMPARE 50 TO 35,000. WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT WITH THE FLU. WE ARE NOT LOCKING OURSELVES AND OUR UNITS. WE ARE NOT LOCKING OURSELVES AND OUR APARTMENTS, NOT MOVING, NOT TOUCHING ANYBODY, JUST SAYING THE WORLD. IN THIS CASE, WE ARE. IF WE JUST KEPT IT GOING ON A NORMAL BASIS, WHICH IS THE ONLY STANDARD YOU CAN COMPARE, THE FLU, BECAUSE THAT WAS A NORMAL BASIS. YOU GET INTO AN AIRPLANE. YOU TRAVEL TO FLORIDA. YOU GO TO TEXAS, WHEREVER YOU ARE GOING. IF WE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING, THE NUMBER WOULDN'T BE 50,000-60,000, IT WOULD BE A MILLION PEOPLE DEAD, MILLION FIVE, A MILLION TWO, MAYBE 700,000. IT WOULD BE A NUMBER LIKE THAT. IT'S SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE I SEE SO MUCH OH, WELL, YOU CAN'T COMPARE IT, BECAUSE I TELL YOU WHAT. THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY, WHAT THEY HAVE DONE, IT'S NOT GREAT, IT'S TERRIBLE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, YOU SEE WHAT'S GOING ON. THEY WANT TO GET GOING. IF WE WOULD'VE DONE THAT, WE WOULD'VE LOST ANYWHERE FROM A MILLION TO MORE THAN 2 MILLION PEOPLE. WITH ALL OF THE DEATH WE HAVE SEEN, 50,000 OR 60,000 PEOPLE -- RIGHT NOW IT'S AT 40,000. THAT'S WITH OUR GUARD UP. IF WE TOOK OUR GUARD DOWN AND JUST SAID OK, WE'RE JUST GOING TO KEEP THIS OPEN, WE WOULD'VE LOST MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. CAN YOU IMAGINE? LOOK HOW BAD IT LOOKS NOW WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE BODIES, WHEN YOU LOOK AT NEW YORK WHERE THEY HAVE THE MASS GRAVE AND ALL OF THE THINGS THAT YOU SEE. CAN YOU IMAGINE IF WE HAD THE GUARD DOWN? IF WE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING AND WE JUST SAID LET'S RIDE IT OUT? IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SUSTAINABLE IN ANY WAY. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ATROCITY. SO WE HAVE DONE THE RIGHT THING. WE HAVE REALLY DONE THE RIGHT THING. THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE WORKED SO HARD -- AND DANGEROUSLY. I WATCH THOSE DOCTORS, NURSES, MEDICAL PEOPLE RUNNING AT HOSPITALS -- THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE GEAR ON. FORGET ABOUT GEAR WHETHER IT'S GREAT OR NOT -- AND WE ARE BRINGING IN THE BEST IN THE WORLD -- BUT THEY ARE RUNNING IN WITH EVERYTHING OPEN -- THEY ARE LIKE WARRIORS. THE JOB THEY ARE DOING. IF WE DIDN'T DO THE MOVES WE MADE, YOU WOULD'VE HAD A MILLION, A MILLION AND A HALF, 2 MILLION PEOPLE DEAD. SO MULTIPLY THAT TIMES 50. 10 TO 20 TO 25 TIMES MORE PEOPLE DEAD THAN ALL OF THE PEOPLE WE HAVE BEEN WATCHING. THAT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE. 50,000 IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. IT'S SO HORRIBLE. BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE MULTIPLYING THAT OUT BY 20 OR MORE? IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE, SO IT'S A VERY BIG QUESTION, I APPRECIATE IT. WE WILL SEE YOU TOMORROW.

If a moderator could maybe alter the spoiler tag to more accurately reflect the content of the spoiler? Because it is most DEFINITELY not the ol' BNTL screed.

This country makes me sad. My wife keeps saying maybe we need to see if we can expat somewhere else, and I don't thing she's wrong.
I had the chance to immigrate to New Zealand back in 2009, but I got accepted into grad school instead. I don't regret staying Stateside because I would have been working outside Christchurch when the earthquake hit. But now I'm thinking I really should take the plunge while I'm still young.

Oh, it got raided, and don't pretend Democrats weren't at the table chowing down just as much. But you're finally coming around to my point - the money is gone. Long since spent. All that remains is a promise to pay it back later.
I'm not convinced you don't believe it you ghoul.
Love you too, honeybuns.

I'm not worried about actual objective reasons. I'm worried about typical federal government reasons (which often have little to do with objectivity, or indeed, rationality).

So y'all ain't talking about how senior cheeto doesn't want companies to be liable for when they open back up.
I doubt there's anyone here on the forum who still needs more evidence in order to be convinced of the need to remove him, so it's not like we're going to hang on his every misstep. There are just too many.

This could explain Trump's seemingly incomprehensible speech patterns.
Perhaps he is appealing directly to the corporate entities themseves, trying to ingratiate himself by speaking to them in their native word salad of buzzwords and action statements.

I'm on the fence about him tbh. You think he's bad?
