Minor victory thread

Back under 200 pounds. I was back up to 210 with the lockdown and inactivity. But when I got my diabetes diagnosis, I started back on my intermittent fasting diet and here I am.

Here's the diet. I can eat anything I want from 7 am - 3 pm. After that, water & unsweetened hot tea only. First few days sucked because I was used to eating so much. But now my stomach has shrunk a little and I'm not even that hungry. I just have to make sure to eat as close to 3 as I can.

But yeah, trying to get healthy and be able to fit in some of my clothes again.

I've heard/seen friends use intermittent fasting like that - eating 8h/day - to pretty good effect, yeah. Though I'd personally put the hours later than that, but that's personal taste.

The hours absolutely matter, though.

the biggest reason why fasting works is people generally choose to have their fasting hours when they are least active. I dont know many people who have tried what I like to call reverse fasting, where you dont eat all day but may eat whatever you want in your off hours. anecdotally I argue that because people fast when they are least active their body makes better use of the calories being taken in, instead of them just going right into storage. Calories in/Calories out is still super important on top of eating a high green veggie/low carbs and meat diet. those three things basically guarantee the average person is gonna drop weight. oh and stop drinking shit with sweetner(regular or diet) in it you fucking lardasses! :p (my hardest lesson!)

From what I've read intermittent fasting just makes it easier to watch your calories, the effects of nutrient timing on the metabolism are minimal at best.

I will chime in that I have seen claims that while intermittent fasting may get results, it is not solely the fasting intermittently part that is getting those results, and that there are other contributing factors at work (such as stress).
I have not personally looked into these claims since I am not currently trying any kind of fasting program.

I know a lot of people who do reverse fasting, about a month a year. It's called "all Muslims" :p

Sometimes it pays off to live in East Texas. I am about an hour away from Cajun country to the east. And a bit more than an hour to the west are Czechs. So here in the middle I found a boudain kolache for breakfast this morning.

They are good, even better if it’s a spicier blend in the boudin than many use.
Not a knock on you, but can’t believe that you’ve just discovered them.

I'm watching the Cybertronic Spree play a live virtual concert and it's great.

They did a dummy gag and that's +100% respect.

I live so far out in the country, I can hunt towards town.

I actually do not go into donut shops. So when my village opened a Kolache shop I had to attend and find such goodness.

I have heard of such goodness before. That was a golden opportunity for me.

Posting here because this is more victory than dinner.

  • This is the first time I've made a bread that came out super light and airy. This gives me hope for my future kolache endeavors.
  • This is the first time I've used the instant pot to proof a bread, and it worked great (yeast setting). Especially since my house is about 66 degrees right now.
  • I had doubts that the air fryer would make good donuts, but they cooked up just fine.
  • These taste awesome.

Clawing some my life back thanks to bonus, Xmas money, and OT pay. Mainly by resubscribing to some of the streaming services I dropped after moving. Welcome back Hulu and MLB AtBat.

Not going back to CR. Qbittorrent and MPC-BE is a much better viewing experience than the stutterstutterstutter of CR's crap web player.

Follow up to the tech whine:

One of the musicians has all the hardware they need, and we were able to play a couple tunes together. Even over the internet, we were pretty well synced up without too much latency. It was nice. There's an annoying crackle in the mix we need to solve, but we're well on our way to post-pandemic irish sessions..whee :)

I used some gift cards to order jeans on Amazon that I read about that had gotten rave reviews. I was worried ordering jeans sight unseen. Especially skinny jeans.

They arrived today and are super nice. They aren’t skinny jeans, I think I ordered a different fit. That’s on me, not them. Still, very nice jeans and they fit well.

I am so short though that the « cropped » jeans are full length on me lol.

I will order the skinny ones next.

Yesterday me and my brother convinced our long time friend NOT to take a plane to visit his mother who he could possibly infect with Covid that he could catch on a plane-HUZZAH!

For real though, good guy, but just a BIT impulsive with decisions.

But you could be again, right? Like, if the world needed you to, you could just eat an entire box of raisins or down a can of pie filling to transform once more into DD?

I sure could! In fact, I might trip the breaker during Christmas.

Remember when I told you all I was diagnosed with diabetes? I went on a diet and have since lost 17 pounds. And my blood sugar level is now no longer in the diabetic range.

I am no longer Diabetic Dave.
Congratulations! So awesome!

Jarritos is a Mexican brand. They have a variety of flavours, I just loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the tamarind flavour. It's slightly tart and sweet in a completely non-overpowering way. It's delicious.

I recommend the website. Go the flavours tab and enjoy the best way to present your soda EVER.

That is one good thing about living in my area: Jarritos is plentiful. I like tamarind too, but my personal favorite is lime.

...I suspect I could probably walk into the local bodega here and come out with one, but I'm not sure I'd wanna try it.
