This image pissed me off for using poor logic:
Christians when a witch does magic.jpg

While there is healthy debate to be had if all magic falls under the category of witchcraft (assuming the existence of the supernatural), or what the Bible even means by the term translated in English texts as witchcraft, the idea that "miracle = magic" is a fundamentally flawed assumption and I hate it when people use logical fallacies in arguments. Not sure if this one is best described as a Strawman, Ambiguity, or some other flawed logic. Guess it depends, at least in part, on who is spreading the meme and why.

Here's a comparison for why the logic is so fucking terrible:
Environmentalists when you.png

Oh those silly environmentalists. Praising light bulbs in one case and getting irrationally angry about them in another. Why can't they make up their minds? </SARCASM>

Really, that's your issue with it, not the fact that the Bible makes it kind of clear it doesn't matter what sex the person doing the magic is, if it's not actually magic from God (aka miracles) it's no bueno.

I mean, those guys in Egypt that Moses beat where men, and there's Simon Magus etc.

Actually, are there even female witches in the Bible besides that necromancer from Endor?

I thought I made it clear that was my issue with it, and what most people reposting the meme miss. I genuinely know that my friends who shared this on Facebook are all about "Christians only hate it because it's women doing it", when it's the power source that's the problem. Which is why I chose power sources as the problem with my environmentalist comparison. Environmentalists pissed about whale oil and imported glacier powered light bulbs aren't pissed about the light bulbs, they're pissed about the source of power (and a little about it's application, in the case of an incandescent bulb). Similarly, Christians pissed about women doing witchcraft aren't pissed because it's women, they are (or, rather, should be) pissed because the power is coming from a bad source (and possibly about the application, if the witchcraft is doing something negative).

Apparently I was not clear, and I apologize for not elaborating more. I have a lot of trouble figuring out how much explanation any given subject needs, and I tend to be very long winded to the point of annoying people, so I try to cut myself off. This time I didn't let myself ramble long enough.

The priests of Baal were pretty much exclusively men, from how it was portrayed in 1 Kings and the story of Elijah on the mountaintop.

Considering how well women were treated in the Gospels (Elizabeth, Mary, Mary of Magdalene, Martha), I'd say thinking that Christians don't like women is wrong. And of course there's Priscilla - who, with her husband Aquila, converted Apollos into a preacher during the time of Paul's missionary journeys.

I'll admit to being of two minds in this category. Should a woman be the head of a church? I'd... have some issues with that. But can a woman preach and teach and minister to others in a church? By all means, yes.

It's really hard to put it into words that don't sound misogynistic. I guess to me it's kinda like the reason why they put an age limit on the presidency in the US.

I wouldn't have a problem attending a church where a woman was the lead pastor - I just don't think I'd want to have that be my church.

We all step in it sometimes. The true measure of character is that "Aaaaahhh, fuck, I'm an idiot" moment, and if it happens.

Yeah, but that is not a good argument if you want to actually show it's not about women doing it, since they could just be using it as an excuse as to why "it's different when women do it"

The fact that they also have examples of males using witchcraft being bad is a way better argument if you're actually trying to show it's not about the gender of the person using it.

I wasn't trying to make a cohesive argument, I was just venting. I wasn't trying to convince anyone, I was just mocking poor logic.
