[TV] The What Animation Are You Watching Thread 2!: The Sequel!

The old toys had meefier legs. Someone just really got into the Bruce Timm style. Need them skinny legs and MAN chests.

Getting a Digimon vibe from Battle Cat, not sure I'm down with that. I can't take He-Man seriously, his proportions just make me think of Pinhead from Puppet Master.

Why are their legs so tiny? How does he even stand up? Why is his head so small? Why is Battle CAT some sort of rat-monkey?

Hopefully the writing will be better than the art design for this He-Man reboot.
And my HOPES for SPOP to cross over...are nullified, because LORD knows I don't want to see the Best Friend squad in this late 2000s CG art style.

The sword KINDA looks like Adora's rune stone sword so that's neat, but I also feel like it should go back to Cybertron where it belongs. And Battle Cat looks like a mix between a Covenant alien from Halo, and a Liger Zero mod from ZOIDS.

Like for real, I hope its good, but this does not inspire confidence.

If you told me I'd get an episode of Ducktales crossed-over with Talespin, about body horrors using the Wuzzles, I would have wondered what the hell you were smoking.

That was great, tho'.

Bumblelion carved into the rock took me a few seconds to recognize.

Loved how they kept calling it "Beartifly"
The Pirate/Parot "Pirot?" and Multi-Hand abomination were nightmare fuel though.

Also the snail guy, because as they panned down, it looked like his eyeballs had been yanked out.

And the screaming. They all kept screaming. Jesus, Ducktales.

Infinity Train, Book 4
I don't know if I should hate them or love them for keeping this a secret for so long. We just found out like a week or two ago that the series was picked up for a 4th season. Now we have a trailer and a release date of a month?
The plot looks interesting. Numbers that are directly connected to each other. I wonder if the twist will be that whenever one goes down the other goes up.
That shot of the steward makes me wonder if this is a prequel as well, occurring while Emelia was in charge of the train.

Can't WAIT for the Darkwing Duck spin-off!
Has there been any recent information on that? The last info that I recall hearing was months ago when they announced that Seth Rogan's animation studio was in talks to helm it.
I don't know if there has been any new information beyond that. And unfortunately I'm not a fan of that idea because that would likely mean a complete reboot rather than using the Darkwing from the Ducktales 2017 series.

Not since November, but they may have just started production. The show might be a year or two off.

My question? WHY did this survive the ATT culling and not Venture Brothers?

That's not even a question about the potential quality of the show. I'm sure it's going to be fine. I'm just pissed this is a thing and not say, finales for Metalocalpyse or Venture Brothers.

Invincible (Amazon Prime)

I have not read the comics, but this was interesting. Gory, and a little too heavy on the asshole characters, but otherwise pretty solid. There are points where the animation is off, but nothing terrible, and the action sequences are very impressive. The biggest disappointment is that there's only 3 episodes (~40-ish minutes each), but a quick google suggests that future episodes will release one each week, with a total of 8.

Rex-Splode was an annoying dick in the comics and boy, getting Jason Mantzoukas at his screechiest sure was a way to crank that to 11. The only voice acting in the show I didn't honestly like. And I like Jason Mantzoukas. I listened to How Did This Get Made for like 4 years. He SUUUUUUCKS as Rex.

The first 3 episodes are your origin story and set-up mini-series that's the usual for these kinds of shows.

I really loved early Invincible so this was pretty fun to watch, but God damn do I wish they had a bigger animation budget. Lots of gorgeous key-frames with not a lot of inbetweens.

Been giving American Dragon Jake Long a rewatch and MAN that season 2 art style change was pointless.

Its one thing to change a few designs, but outside of Fu-dog they changed EVERY characters design!

That HAD to mess with production, they had a WHOLE set of character models from the previous season for the storyboard artists to work with, and just SCRAPPED em for new ones.

Invincible

...eh. The animation is good when it gets going, but for the most part its the same ultra violent yet super genre super hero story the original comic book was.

And for FUCK'S sake Rex-splode, couldn't they have written him SLIGHTLY more likable?! A lot of folks blame Jason Mantzoukas, but the reality is NO ONE can make that character likable.

But away from that, the episodes feel less like full 45 minute story narratives, and more a bunch of vignettes stitched together from the comic books. Like that bit with Allen the Alien in ep two came out of NO WHERE, if I didn't know what was gonna happen I'd just felt like it was just some randomness put into the story for no reason.

ONE plus though, they didn't adapt that dumb as hell story from the first volume where a science teacher somehow turns high schoolers into bombs, as it didn't make any sense when I read it in print, and it wouldn't make sense in TV.

LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS Vol. 2 trailer

If you haven't watched Vol 1, you really should. Some absolutely beautiful storytelling.
