[Brazelton] Argos catalogue

This is one that only other British forumites will get, but for almost 50 years British children have made up their Christmas list by circling the things they wanted in the Argos catalogue and now it has published its last edition. Only the Bible was believed to be in more UK homes than the big book of dreams.

RIP, my childhood. RIP

I don't feel super terrible about catalogues dying off. They are pretty wasteful in this day and age.

As fondly as I remember making my Christmas wish list from catalogs and holiday ads, holy crap were those things manipulative. I can't help but wonder sometimes if people will look back on the virtually unchecked advertising of the last couple centuries and view it like we do using lead tableware, or asbestos ceiling tiles.
