Best pizza in Chicago?

I'm in north chicago this morning and early afternoon with my wife and new baby picking up a van from a bus dealership.

Where should we go for good Chicago style pizza?

Anyplace in the metro area is fair game - we have to go south and around the lake on our way back to michigan anyway. If it's downtown we'll probably park the new Davismobile and take the little car in and out.

Short notice, but if anyone is in the area and wants to meet, call or text me 734-255-9697.

I've only ever been to Gino's East, but it was pretty damn good pizza.

Only place I know is Giordano's. And according to some people I've met out that way, that's all I needed to know. :)

When Mr. Z used to visit Chicago, that was his favorite place to go.

Lou Malnati's is excellent. Pizzeria Uno (original location) is, too. From what I've heard, Pequod's is actually the best place locals go to. Gino's East is okay, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Gino's is still trading on their fame being voted best Pizza in America by People magazine back in the late 80's. It's still a good example of Chicago Deep Dish, but it's more commercial now.

Also the only place I've ever had. It was very expensive but worth it for a treat. Quite delicious.

I just looked up the place my brother took me to 15 years ago when he lived there, Tony's Pizza Peddlers. Google says permanently closed.

Four days in New York has spoiled me. I can't in good conscience consider Pizza Hut, Dominos, or Papa John's ever again.

Eh. PH and Dominoes and such should just not be considered the same kind of food as a good pizza, much like Taco Bell isn't actual Mexican food and McDonalds is in no way comparable to an actual good burger (completely off topic, I had an amazing hamburger a few days ago.). Fast Food is its own food type.

I'm glad to report the closest thing to a "chain" I went to during my stay in NYC was a Papaya Dog in the East Village. Even that was local. :)
