Hello cretins,

El Juski here (or, "The Juice" to his peers and contemporaries). Recently I bought a random Wootshirt from the random Wootshirt day, and as it turns out, this shirt displeases me. That is to say it is not an exceptional shirt; the shirt is of quality, and would give all sorts of nerds the sort of pleasure that a zombie shirt would give. It is a zombie shirt, you have heard correctly. And now I want to pay it forward and send you this shirt.

But you will earn this shirt.

Here's the deal. Summer break is coming up, and I need a good summer mix. You, forum, will provide me with a playlist I can use as a summer mix to rock out over the summer as only a teacher and a drunk could. Here are the parameters:

  • 18 songs which are either summer in theme or mood.
  • Songs which would entertain me.
  • Songs which are not cliché, but also, songs which are not weird and esoteric.
  • The playlist must have a good flow.
  • Playlists can just be posted in the thread, 1-18. Youtube vids, Grooveshark links, etc, etc are additional bells and whistles. Or just blow my mind with some new way of sharing music I haven't heard of yet.

The deadline is June 8th, the last day of school.

Oh, and lastly, this is also a wet t-shirt contest. So in lieu of a playlist, feel free (@HowDroll apparently really, really wants to win this shirt; I acquiesce).

If I had that WIT t-shirt yet I'd have posted it in lieu of a wet t-shirt for pure punacity.

Uhhhh... I don't wear t-shirts. And I suck at making playlists. Wait, what? Heressomemusicbye

No but seriously, I'm 4 songs in and feeling good. The right order is going to be tough, though.

QUESTION! and this is important so a response ASAP would be appreciated.

Can the mix be divided into sub categories as to highlight the mood in which the set of songs most appropriately fits? Or should it just be one list for all general purpose summer jam needs?

An example would be "Songs to sit on your balcony on a cool summer night with a whiskey and a cigar" or "Hot days merit hot beats" and so on.

Ooh, good question. I actually like your idea for the latter, although a good general purpose summer mix would have a decent flow of all sorts of things, as well.

yayyyy people are making mixes! Making mix CD's is so much fun.

Right. I forgot about this. I started but the list needs some refinement. It is difficult to not just load it with first and third wave ska.

14.

15. (This one needs the opening part where Will Smith tells his kid there's only a few more tracks left, and for the kid to pick a good one) William Smith- Wild Wild West: http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Wild Wild West Radio Version/2M8fG4?src=5

Don't give me the shirt if I "win." I seriously don't want it. I just like making mixes.

Also I have finished the consolation prize--Juice Jamz vol. 1, for all that will be interested in receiving a copy.

I was listening to the mix yesterday, and I don't like my number 8. Replace No Sex for Ben with the classic

Join me, won't you? Let's go on a trip down the memory of summer's long gone.

Queue up this playlist, and let the memories flow:

http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Juice+Is+Loose/74090670

1) How Do You Afford Your Rock and Roll Lifestyle - Cake
- You know you relate to this. Going to shows for the sake of going to shows, and telling everyone about the cool music you listen to. Pretty much what this playlist is.

2) Stadium Love - Metric
- This song just kicks off loud, hard, and fast. Just like we hope our summer's go.

3) Wynona's Big Brown Beaver - Primus
- Every summer needs a big beaver.

4) Heads Will Roll - Yeah Yeah Yeah's
- Honestly, I just think it's a great head bobbing jam.

5) I Wish I Was a Baller - Skee Low
- Oh shit, we're changing stations now. Cruisin' back to the 90's. If you're like me, you remember all those great hip hop and rap songs that populated MTV when they actually played some damn music.

6) Southernplayalisticadillacmuzic - Outkast
- Just imagine all the fly honies givin' ya the eyes while you cruise up in your [INSERT CAR HERE].

7) A Dream - Jay Z (Feat. Notorious B.I.G.)
- Let's get into some of that deep philosophical shit while Hova drops some powerful messages, hauntingly backed by Biggies famous verses from Juicy.

8) From 93 Til Infinity - Souls of Mischief
- The 90s are getting into full swing, and continuing to set into motion the music that will impact the world for... well, infinity I guess.

9) Fire - Jimi Hendrix
- This is just a hot rock song for a hot season.

10) Guarantees - Atmosphere
- "The only guarantee in life, if a life worth dying for." The summer is no time for regrets and dwelling on mistakes. Let's get cracking into the uplifting stuff.

11) Cabron - Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Awwww, yeahhhh. Now if this song doesn't make you want to get out in the sun and enjoy the fuck out of the weather or the company of friends, nothing will.

12) The Impression That I Get - Mighty Mighty Bosstones
- I don't care if this song got played a ton on the radio, it's still an amazing ska song that deserves all the play it gets.

13) We Intertwined - The Hush Sound
- Ahh, summer love. Go have a picnic, or some shit like that.

14) The Woman With Tattooed Hands - Atmosphere
- Atmosphere's back. Slug's on the mic. The Hands are in the panties.

15) Fuck Her Gently - Tenacious D
- Those panties better be gone and you better be following to the tips that this song is laying down.

16) Alive With the Glory of Love - Say Anything
- That summer fling has you feeling crazy daisy! You don't know where she came from, but damn if you don't wish she could stay forever.

17) Missy - The Airborne Toxic Event
- Aw shit, this is probably where she came from and now she's moved on to her next home and you're left broken hearted..

18) (If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To - Weezer
- Oh wait! A new girl! God damn summer, you just always know how to make it special, don't you

19) Hot Summer Nights (Won't Last Forever) - The Aquabats
- Alas, summer can't be never-ending.. And neither can summer romances. Summer lovin', happened so fastttt....

Guess I gotta lift my shirt to win that t-shirt!

Man, I haven't worked on this in a few days. I'm up to like 13, though two share the same gimmick so I might want to cut one of them, or at least have them spread far enough from one another that it'll still work.

POSSIBLE PREVIEW HAVEN'T DECIDED YET!

for that "thinking of her on a warm summer night" kind of night

I can't decide if that's really a good summer song or if I'm just diggin' on that right now.

Beaches are a thing people do in the summer. So are drugs.
3. Tame Impala - Expectation
Loud. Psychedelic. Australian. The perfect summer storm.
4. Jamiroquai - Cosmic Girl
Again with the bass, except this time it's suitable for whitey.

Also, lost your number, you still gonna see The Hives? Wasn't sure I'd be able to make it until I got fantastic news today.

I forgot about/lost interest in this, so here's what I came up with.

Snoop dogg-Gin and juice
Somewhere over the rainbow- Izrael kimakowawiawhatever
Ocean breaths salty- Modest mouse
Scar Tissue- Red hot chilli peppers
childish gambino-heartbeat
mgmt-kids/ electric feel
ceelo green- fuck you
blues from down here or wolf like me- TV on the radio
burn this city- franz ferdinand
jamiroquai- feels just like it should/ canned heat?
prince- purple rain
Malajube- Pate Filo/montreal -40
Kisida Kyodan & The Akebosi Rockets
Yazoo- Only you
Staring at the sun- Tv on the radio

If I had a mic I'd drop it now and walk off.

It's kinda cool how we all have a lot of artists the same. And not like, super obvious stuff, but you guys had Jamiroquai? That's awesome.

Also, I'm jealous I didn't think of Flaming Lips summertime first

I'll dig around my old text list to see if I got yours still, fuck yeah let's go see the Hives. Already have my ticket. It's what, next Tuesday? Still need to pick up Lex Hives before then too *SHAME*

ALSO CONTEST DEADLINE IS NOW NO MORE SUBMISSIONS STUPIDS

It's kinda cool how we all have a lot of artists the same. And not like, super obvious stuff, but you guys had Jamiroquai? That's awesome.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how all of your guys' mixes turned out. Picking may be hard. Picking may require Bananahands.

I missed the deadline thanks to having my internet installation guy not show up and being rescheduled TWICE. (I was supposed to have been hooked up last Tuesday, just got hooked up today). Oh well, honestly didn't really want the shirt anyway. But here is my mix, it pretty much takes one through the mindsets of a full summer day, I feel:

On the Junk- The Wedgewoods
Shining On- Big D & the Kids Table
Into Action- Tim Armstrong
Sweet Home Alabama- Lynyrd Skynyrd (At least, for me this song always makes me think of summer. It's definitely a big bonfire song at my parents' place. But it's the kind that always seems to find a place on my dad's summer playlist so it plays long before anyone actually shows up to the bonfire)
Summer of 69- Bryan Adams
Here For a Good Time (Not A Long Time)- Trooper
Generator- The Holloways
Summertime- Sex Bob-omb
Surfin' in Tofino- The Planet Smashers
Surf Medley- Junior Brown
Simmer Down- Mighty Mighty Bosstones (You guys know that Mighty Mighty Bosstones have other songs, right?)
Island in the Sun- Weezer (Mighty be a little cliche, but I don't want the shirt anyway)
Sunny Days- The Johnstones (Despite the content of the music video)
Let's Go Sunning- Jack Shaindlin (Everyone knows this one by now, I'm sure.)
Dying Too Long- The Expos
Cool Your Jets- The Planet Smashers
Patio Lanterns- Kim Mitchell (Every Canadian Halforumite knows this is the unofficial anthem to late night summer parties)
You're Wondering Now- The Specials (in this particular case, feat. Amy Winehouse)

As an added bonus, my list meets the broadcasting standards of Canadian content. I have even bolded all the Canadian tracks.

What if the winner dies before you get done with your bullshit probably important stuff and they never knew they won

what then

juski?
