I read his Book of the New Sun and Urth of the New Sun books. They were... fucking weird and often impenetrable, honestly. He was the absolute king of "call a rabbit a 'smeerp'" tropes, using as archaic and nonspecific a term as he possibly could for various things. And the stories within stories were fucking bonkers. At one point someone tells a story in which Theseus in the Labyrinth vs the Minotaur is conflated with the Battle of Hampton Roads against the ironclad Monitor. And another mixes the Jungle Book with the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth.

Some genuinely bonkers shit.
