What WoW won't.

Make it to lvl 50 with a character/race combo and now you can use that race as any class. Yes, you can have a pure blood Sith, as a Jedi on Republic side. That's the equivilent of getting a lvl 85 Orc Shaman on WoW and being able to make a new Orc Paladin on Alliance side.

Oh yeah, and that new Orc Paladin, can use lower end versions of the class you leveled before. Orc Paladin with Chain Lightning? Sure why not!

Insane.

First thought? Cross-class powers are lame.

But then I read the article.

Being able to draw upon specific powers from those in your character's legacy during a heroic moment is actually pretty goddamn epic.

Though, the nerd in me is still going to be upset to see cyborg inquisitors.

I always really wished that the faction change mechanics on WoW would allow you to keep your race and just change sides. "What's that? Thrall had to leave Orgrimmar to do something really important and now Emoboy is in charge of the Horde, and Cairne is dead? Screw that noise, my Tauren ass is supporting Varian from now on." Is so much more powerful a decision than, "Well gee, my friends stopped playing Horde, I guess I'll take my raid tank and go with them to the Alliance side. Let's see, should I play a human, a dwarf, or a space-goat?"

Man, before WoW ever came out, Forsaken Paladin was the character I really wanted to make.

And then I discovered you couldn't :(

I really hope I don't need to keep my Lvl 50 cyborg around to keep his bonuses. I really, really don't enjoy playing a Commando Healer.

Hey, I hear they just started doing something similar to RAF, a friend invite. Anyone mind throwing me an invite so I can try the game out for a bit?

Me and Snuffleupagus and a bunch of my IRL friends have a high level raiding Imperial guild on Iron Citadel.

I made an Empire Light-Side Bounty Hunter on Lord Adraas if you ever want to play Ravenpoe, named Rexxalis. I may also make a character on Iron Citadel but I have to see how much I like the game first, since I am only going to spread out if I buy it.

I must say there are some great things and some not so great things, sadly the one not so great thing is the same thing that often makes it hard for me to get into other MMOs, and that is responsiveness. WoW may have it's flaws but the one thing I always made it great was the responsiveness of skill casts and abilities. You always felt like when you clicked that button the skill either happens or a cast bar appears, and when the cast bar ends, it happens. So far on my Bounty Hunter, I click the rocket skill, have to wait 1-2 seconds for it to register the click fully, then my guy does the animation, then I finally hit them with the rocket. It makes it hard for me to really get into the combat.

On the bright side I love the story side of the whole thing. If it was a single player game or didn't have a fee, I would be all over it.

Skill response has always been very quick for me, in par with wow. That's not normal.

It's quick, but not WoW quick. I know it's not my internet, otherwise ME3 and WoW would have the same problem. My 1-2 sec I admit was a bit of an exaggeration on my part, the longed I saw a skill actually take was 1 seconds, the rest it's more like a few miliseconds, but when you play WoW as long as I have you get used to not having those miliseconds have time "wasted".

I'm loving TOR as well Scythe and I know exactly what you mean. There's slight glitches in spells too that can be annoying when you're used to something as polished as WoW. I notice milisecond delays on spell completion to acknowledgement or there are times when you can a spell in succession the animations won't always play correctly (Ie: I force shield someone then do it again after canceling one, the shield won't be visible on the target but they have the buff)

The story is worth every minor glitch there is though.

So I got my Bounty Hunter to 14. Mako seems to love the fact I am a Light Side leaner since her affection rating is already over 1000. Cute little cyborg.

I still have some issues with how responsive the game is. I will sometimes hit a skill only for it to not register, or other times it lags even longer then before. Other times it gets back closer to the only slight delay, but still not nearly on par with WoW. The storyline is excellent, though the larger areas were starting to drag a bit. Going to play a bit more tonight and see how it goes, might make another character on the Republic side.

Mako is all about making money and not killing without reason. Start talking credits in your storyline and she'll be jumping your bones in no time.

The responsiveness thing is something they're working on it seems, it was really bad up until late January. The only gripe I have right now is the endgame doesn't have any draw at all for me. I've cleared EV on normal, but like WoW I don't give a damn about any sort of hard/nightmare modes. FP hardmodes (for the most part) take longer than raid normal modes for the same level of gear, which is silly. I haven't tried PvP at 50, but Jedi Knight pvp gear is beyond ugly, so I'm not sure I can bring myself to do that.

I've been goofing around on random alts trying to find which one is entertaining enough in both play and story to bring to 50 next. It's a hard choice.

That kind of makes me want to reroll the human inquisitor I played to level 6 or 7 tonight as a Sith

Sith have the best Racial emote, Punish. You slap your companion's shit. I will reroll my Smuggler to Sith for the chance to slap Corso's face off whenever I want.

Well that was disappointing. I was literally working towards getting my ship, which was going to be the big deal breaker for me because the space travel, ship customization, etc... was what I felt was going to really make it stand out. I get to the point, do the quest for the ship, and...

"You are not eligible to enter this area, buy the game!"

Oh thanks for cutting me off right before I go to what makes your game stand out more as really unique.

The game is still fun, going to try a Jedi now, but I am still on the fence because I didn't get to experience the real dealbreaker.

Space travel is basically Mass Effect. Wander your ship, use a map to click the destination, fly there, leave the ship. You upgrade your ship the same way you do yourself/companion, equipping new items to it from the character/companion window. It's nothing groundbreaking, truth be told.

Yes but I still wanted to see it and experience it a little before I decided to pay for it. It just seems like such a cock block to the enthusiasm I was building for the game. I know why they do it, because most people will be like "OMG I WANT MY SHIP" and sign up right then, but I am just always the other way around. I like to see what I am getting into before I shell out the money and get a little insulted by overly obvious "carrots".

It's ground breaking for MMOs. You get daily quests you can do for xp instead of the usual "kill x npcs" grind. You get unique conversations with your crew you wouldn't get otherwise, in my opinion it was pretty ground breaking and definitely something that sets it far and aways apart. The space missions, while nothing more than a rail shooter felt like a really fun arcade game that earns pretty awesome rewards.

There's still quite a lot of "kill/collect x" quests, especially in the bonus quests/series, though I do appreciate the lack of escorts and the quest flow over WoW by a long shot. I was mostly just referring to the method of travel, as it's not really anything amazing. I will admit the first time I got a ship though, it was a nice feeling. Realizing it's basically treated as an excuse to make you do more back and forth to prolong questing and the gap between Chapters bugs me a bit, though. Yeah you can talk to your companions on your ship, but until the higher conversation levels it can all be done in Cantinas as well (and honestly having to slog all the way back to my ship just for the conversations is a pain, would prefer they all activate in cantinas and ships).

Equipping your ship in order to clear higher level space missions is really the same as equipping yourself for a higher level dungeon or the like, as you'll need the increase in ammo/damage as well as better shields just as you would more DPS or health/defense.

I really do enjoy this game, though, all things considered. Endgame isn't super interesting to me but the new stuff coming in with 1.2 sounds pretty awesome. I'm especially curious to see how they add on to the Rakghoul plague storyline from Kaon Under Siege, as well as the new BG.

See, my guild on Rubat Crystal is having the opposite problem: We can farm the shit out of Hard Mode Flashpoints but we haven't gotten past the third boss in Eternity Vault Normal Mode. Mind you, we've only done two EV attempts because of scheduling, but we have Black Talon HM and The Foundry HM down to a science. Black Talon takes maybe 30-40 minutes and The Foundry takes maybe an hour.

Honestly, I think the HMs are too easy.

Well that's the thing, is they're not hard, it's the insane amount of trash in the HM's. Also, are you talking about the Pylons as a boss, or do you mean the Council?

Pylons. We only tried it like 3 times, but it was late and we were all tired. Honestly, the issue is that our DPS keep getting aggro on the Kamikaze Rakata, which means they die and I can't burn down the golds fast enough as a Tank to stay up while they fiddle with the consoles.

We almost did it the last time we did it (one last turn would have put in #4) but I was already at around 100k in repairs at that point. Hopefully it'll go a it smoother once I get my last tionese/columi piece.
