U.S. Census

Has anyone else received a census notification in the mail?

Julie's online filling ours out and they're getting a little invasive. Like, asking what time we left for work on a particular day, as an example. Is this normal?

It says our response is required by law.

Isn't the next census in 2020? That screams scam to me, personally.

I mean, they do test questionnaires, but not about daily habits.

If in doubt, contact the census bureau. If it's not real, they will be glad to know about it.

It's on census.gov. It's some weird census they started in 2005. But it screams scam to me too, even if it's genuinely from the government.

I've already advised people at work who are getting "Census" notifications requesting things like Name, Address, Birthdate, Weight/Length at Birth, Hospital where birth occurred, etc., to disregard this particular "Census" and report it to appropriate authorities, since it sounds like they're just basically trying to forge a birth certificate.

Nothing like that.

Looks like it's legitimate, just really weird.

Sounds like it's from the American Community Survey and not the actual census. There those in government who believe that is covered by law under the census mandate and those that don't. Its legality hasn't really been tested in court.

I got one of these in late August of 2016, filled it out since it was all on .gov domains and I really don't want any trouble with the feds (same reason I acquiesced to the draft bullshit).
