[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

The Boondock Saints is a totally fun movie, there's no reason to hate on it. But upon watching the sequel, I realized that the first being good was entirely accidental.
Yeah, that second one was abysmal. I didn't even get through the first 20 minutes.

The World's End: Sweet strawberry Jesus did I love this film! Now I loved the humor, but when Nick Frost got picked up those barstools and just started beating robots I lost my shit it was awesome!

And Spoony really didn't like it? And thinks people who like it are deluding themselves? There is criticism and then there is just being mean.

2001: A Space Odyssey

So, I'm a bit conflicted here. Overall, I have to say I quite enjoyed the experience, because it kept me in a sense of mystery wondering what was going to happen next. If I were to watch it again, though, I think all I would feel is boredom.
I would recommend watching it once, and then reading the book. It's a great book, and fairly easy to read. Then see if you want to eventually watch it again with the understanding of the original author.

I know some of the ambiguity is cleared up in the novelization, but I actually liked the ambiguity. And I will likely watch it again sometime, just to enjoy the amount of craft that went into it's production. Kubrick had a very clear vision, and you can tell he held nothing back in realizing it.

Star Trek Into Darkness

Kirk has a thing for getting beaten up by opponents that are physically stronger than him. Spock and Romulans in the first film, Klingons and Harrison in the second. Seriously, this guy must have an adamantium skeleton to have survived all the times he's been punched around by enemies with superhuman strength.

That's pretty consistent with TOS. Kirk may have been brave, devious and insanely lucky, but he was never exactly smart.

Oh absolutely. I was mainly commenting on how insanely resilient Kirk is in this continuity.

To be fair, Kahn didn't even have to lay a finger on Kirk to wear him out.
You mean when they first met, and Khan surrendered? Yeah, that established how tough Khan is. Later on though, on the other ship, Khan delivers quite a few good hits on Kirk, to the point where Kirk is leaking blood from his mouth. And then a few minutes later, Kirk's back to doing all his heroics. That's a level of resilience and recovery you expect to see on clawed mutants that say "bub" a lot.

I should point out that I'm not saying this is a flaw of the movies, though. It's easy to suspend disbelief for Star Trek, and this sort of cavalier can't-keep-me-down heroism is exactly what Kirk should be like.

Dredd popped up on NetFlix for me the other day. Finally watched it. Rather enjoyed it, even if I felt that the uniform went a bit too much grimderp... I liked the look of the uniform from the first movie - hearkened back to the comic much better.

The story, however, was spot on. Over-the-top crime boss, setting was excellent, "I am the law," (yes, I know the story was a re-hash from Asia - I can't remember where, exactly right now), all in all, very satisfying popcorn flick.

4/5 rounds, would load again.

You're thinking of the Raid Redemption, and it's really not. Principal photography of Dredd began in November 2010 (Going into pre-production in early 2010 with the script being worked on as early as 2008). The Raid began filming in March 2011.

I apologize for revealing
Khan beats up Kirk.

I'm not being sarcastic either. It honestly didn't occur to me that this would count as a spoiler. Sorry about that. :(

You mean when Kirk and Spock made sweet, sweet space love in the escape pod? It was tender, then not so tender, then tender again, then it got WEIRD, then it got tender again. That kind of specific?
For the record? That was my favourite scene in the whole movie. I must've watched that at least three dozen times.

It's not weird if you think about it, of course the phasers would have a "tingle" setting, and turning off the pod's gravity doesn't seem out of the ordinary.
Wait, that's what happened? Oh....that makes a lot more sense now. Abrams creative use of the lens flares were making it a little hard to follow.

Eegah: MST3k does best when dealing with a shitty monster movie, so this was a lot of fun.

But the movie itself pissed me off near the end when it began ripping off one of the musical themes from the original King Kong, the sad one you hear shortly before he drops off the Empire State Building. You've got some fucking balls, Eegah's film-makers. Assballs.

Cabin in the Woods

Watched it for the probably the half-dozenth time myself, but I introduced it to a friend tonight who hadn't seen it yet.

And by god, I love this movie so much. He did, too. It's funny, though. Even though he's not as big a horror flick buff as I am, he still recognized all the cliches and tropes that fill the first third of this movie.

The funniest part, though? I told him at one point that the movie seems to end but then keeps going. Didn't say what part, but I'd tell him after. So we get to the part...

...where the camera pans back and we see all the cages for all the monsters.

And I say to him, "And that's not the ending!" to which he shouts, "WHAT?" in shock. Awesome.

I like to tell people that it plays out just like a horror film, and then there is a point where an acre of shit hits a massive fan. When someone asks me to sum up this movie I say "purge button."
