[Gaming] Diablo 3 : Ser Farm-A-Lot

Ooo, didn't realise my 'tag wasn't in the thread (or if it is, it's buried).
@Jay will have to add me to the list, I'm PatrThom#1612.

Ok, if your battletag was ever mentioned in this thread, you've just received a friend request...even those of you who have been out of the game so long that Blizzard can't show me your profile. Join me, or don't. But if you don't, don't come crying to me later about how you can't find anyone to play co-op.

So, I finally got my monk to level 60, and got my butt to Inferno mode. And then promptly died to a pack of non-elite zombies.

Well...

So, upon changing my approach, switching up my skills, and focusing more on survival, I'm finally plugging along quite nicely, and then I find my first legendary (at least my first that wasn't a gift from @PatrThom )

I almost didn't take a second look at it, because its stats were all worse than my current belt. Except for the one stat I have circled in red.

20% reduced melee damage is HUGE! I now love this belt.

That's one of the legendary items I've never found on my own. I didn't realized that's what it had as its "legendary" affix (most legendary items have one thing that you can't normally get on that type of item, if at all).
Monks already get a 30% damage reduction just for being a Monk. Wearing that belt basically does the exact same thing as the Wizard passive skill "Blur," which would effecively up your melee damage reduction to 50%. It doesn't reduce ranged damage, of course, and you will probably eventually switch it out for something else, but for now it's probably almost like gaining 500-1000 armor or something.

Almost everyone eventually ends up wearing some form of The Witching Hour as their ultimate belt, though. Just letting you know ahead of time. And I only gave you one legendary (that nobody in the auction house wanted to buy). :)

I'm assuming that's the belt of ears right (I can't see the link)? That used to be the most expensive belt on the auction house, depending on affixes.

String of ears, yes. I've learned that legendaries have slightly random stats, so here's the stats on it:

252 armor
65 str (meh, I'm a monk)
70 dex (not a lot, but it'll do)
+34 poison resist (nice, since my one-with-everything highest resist is poison)
+15 resist all
Each hit adds +86 life
+80 armor
Reduces damage from melee attacks by 20%

That last one is the only reason I'm wearing the belt, and it's made a huge difference.

To break that down according to what you could get:
11-20 resist all (you rolled 15, or 50 percentile)
55-94 life on hit (you rolled 86, or 80 percentile)
85-145 armor (you rolled 89, or 7 percentile)
10-20% melee damage reduction (you rolled 20, or 100 percentile)
+ 3 random properties, which were:
65 str (which does add 65 armor)
70 dex (ups your dodge and damage)
34 poison resist (nice boost if you're a monk)

So the only thing you got shafted on was the armor roll, but you get an added 65 armor due to the str roll.
Really, the only thing bad about that belt is that you had to "waste" one of your random rolls to make up for the low "built-in" armor roll.
Other than that, it is quite a nice belt for ilvl<63.

So, after adjusting to Inferno difficulty, changing up my skills, and finding some gear, I was able to blow through act 1 and am now going into act 2. Feeling pretty good about my stats so far:

spoilered for size

Not pictured: Keen Eye, which increases my armor by 50% every time I land a combo.

Your armor is very nice for starting out and in Inferno. Make sure to keep your difficulty at MP1 or higher to maximize your exp gain. Most of your "adjusting" is probably just getting used to things not dying when you hit them twice. If you want to try and "practice" a bit more without the burden of inferno, try Hell difficulty at MP10. A good way of finding out if you're "ready" for the next difficulty level is to set the monster power to 10 and see if you can still survive. If you can, you're ready.

Also, don't forget that you can use the skills calculator if you want to show us your skills loadout.

I look forward to seeing what you've been up to. :)

Here's my current skill setup http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#bSXgYh!XeU!ZZbaca

With that setup, your biggest weakness will probably be elites which reflect damage, but not until you get to the higher monster power levels. Really, an armor > 5000 when you're not even gearing for it is way up there, and should do you a lot of good.

So I beat the game on normal on the PS3 and got a legendary weapon off Diablo! An awesome one at that. Much more satisfying than a pile of blues on the PC.

So looks like RoS release date has been released.
Ooo, and lookit that, it's exactly one week after the AH will close down.

Horay, they've added something that most games have had for over a decade.

Sorry, I'll take my too-little-too-late attitude elsewhere.

Jesus. $40/$60 was bad enough, but for Europe they've just gone and decided $1 = €1? €60 for the "digital deluxe edition"?

..Do they realize this is over $82 right now? For WoW they magically make the prices nearly exactly the same across the world, for standalone they just assume we're willing to fork over 30% extra? Bastards.

If there was any chance they'd lower the price in relatively short order I'd just wait it out...But considering the base game is still sold at full price, I assume that's not going to happen. Gah.

Playing through DIII again, just got into the second act (yes, I'm still a slow-ass player). A little overpowered, what with the 50% experience boost 'till the end of March, but anyway - enjoying myself a whole lot more. I'm wearing 2 uniques I found on this character, all other items are rares I found with this character....They may have even overdone the adjustments to the loot tables, but hey. No auction house and much better drops makes for a way more rewarding play experience.

That, or the Wizard is just more fun to play than a Witch Doctor, I dunno.

The Wizard is more fun to play than a Witch Doctor. The WD has more work managing pickup radius and pets, the Wiz is more of a direct damage class.

--Patrick

The Witch Doctor probably has better survivability though, as he can become plain invincible for short periods of time. Or at least that's how he was when I last played.

Having played mine recently, I can confirm that Spirit Walk is indeed still one of his excellent abilities.
