[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

For Batman's sake, I hope this is another suit where he can't turn his neck. It'll be his best protection against "Superman."
it looks like the whole cowl is a completely different material than the body suit so I think he should have some neck mobility.

Also i think its funny how this image has flipped what seems like 99% of the internet from "Batfleck is literally worse than Hitler!" to "aw man I'm so excited! Afleck is gonna crush it as Batman!"

Seriously, internet? All it took was an image of him in the mask for you to pull a 180 like that? The extreme reactions of nerds on reddit to this movie could be a good psychology study.

The thing that goes through my mind after seeing the latest pic of Affleck as Batman is a reminder of the big influence on this film: The Dark Knight Returns. With the design of that cowl and Affleck's chin, it seriously feels a bit like Miller's older Batman design.

Yeah, because it's so weird to be upset about an ending that completely inverts the character. It's like LotR ending with Frodo having a rap battle with Sauron.

...

Nevermind. That sounds awesome.

That cowl looks incredible.

FTFY

Many of us Superman fans found it to be a compelling version that fits the mythos quite nicely. Some didn't.

Why bother calling him Superman, then? His characterization is as much part of his identity as his uniform or his origin. Takes more than just making him "a dude from Krypton" to be Superman.

Alternate interpretations of characters are reserved for one-off comics or alternate lines. This is going to be the mainstream DC universe going forward. Therefore it's a corruption of the character. It's the equivalent of sticking Red Son Superman in with the rest of the New 52 Justice league.

Ugh. This discussion is stupid. People don't have to like every story ever told about a character. Some Batman fans didn't like Nolans take and some didn't like Burtons take and some Hellboy fans hated Del Toro's take. Whatever. Wait a few years and you will get a different version because the characters have infinite versions and tales to tell. Or go buy a comic book and read the version you want. I'm tired of the bitching by fans who feel like they own a character and any deviation is a personal slight against them if it doesn't line up to the one in their heads.

I don't really agree with you there. This isn't an interpretation in some niche group of fans' heads. It's a basic tenet of the character established by years of writing history. I don't find it to be a personal slight in the least, but I do find it to be a different superman than the established one. I'm not lighting any torches or carrying pitchforks, but I feel okay thinking it was an atypical interpretation of the established character. Nolan and del Toro may have deviated, but they didn't change what many felt was a fundamental character trait.

And you can totally think that they changed what you believe is a fundamental character trait. You can even state that everyone who doesn't agree with you is wrong. Thats all well and good, but I'm getting tired of any time any of us want to discuss something about the movies here you guys pop back up and start bitching all over again.

WE GET IT. SOME OF YOU DIDN'T LIKE THE MOVIE OR THINK IT'S A GOOD INTERPRETATION OF SUPERMAN.

Thats my point. We don't need to rehash the same stupid discussion anytime the thread updates. Some people liked it, some didn't, some probably thought it was meh. Lets move on.

Good grief. I didn't realize that this was striking such a nerve. I just responded to CDS's thing, which I believe (though I could be mistaken) was the first time I've said anything about MoS since I just saw it.

And yet only one person in the discussion is throwing things out in capslock and getting upset. It's a discussion forum, let people discuss. Calm down.

You know, I'm not a fan of the small ears. I like them big and pointy, sort of like Batman from the Arkham games.

I think it looks pretty good, personally, but with how much it sounds like they're trying to cram into this movie I'm not expecting much. I just like that it doesn't look like formed rubber or plastic anymore. I still think the Arkham games have the best Batsuits, though.

It's not your fault, I'm just tired of looking in a thread about a movie and seeing the same stupid bitching every time it updates. It's just getting old and taking the place of any real discussion. But I realize I'm pushing against what people want in here so I'll drop it.

AUUGGHHH!! MY EYES! CANNOT UNSEE! :Leyla:

...It's probably best that movie wasn't made, except to make Superman IV feel better about itself.

While I do agree that seeing the same five points made every time gets old, I have to admit you chose a poor moment to get riled about it - it really were different people than the last time the same discussion was had. Seems there's just lots of people who think so, and every time others come out to say mostly the same stuff. It's like this is a hub of people with similar ideas who hold conversations over many months, and not everybody always reads every point made before what they want to say. :p

This guy is Superman:

He turns into a flock of tables with tentacle legs when he's happy. He comes from the center of the Earth and drives the Superman-mobile, even though he can fly. He just doesn't like to fly. His city where he works is Denver, Colorado, where he moonlights as a cab driver. His policy on crime? Most of it's okay, but not jaywalking. He'll fucking kill you for that.

But he's Superman, wooooooooooooooooooo--can't get mad even if it changes so many elements of the character, that's just your interpretation, your drooling throwbacks!

I'm being facetious, but the point is, you can say anything is anything if it's all up to anyone's interpretation. Why bother discussing it at that point?

The thing is, it wasn't just me or a small number of people that were bothered by Superman killing. A LOT of people were, including big names in the comic industry like Mark Waid. That's why opinions on the movie were split so much. For me, Superman isn't just some fun comic book character (though he's that, too). He means a lot to me. And it really bothers me that right now, I can't enjoy or get excited for my favourite superhero and fictional character. And that absolutely destroys me. Yeah, he's killed before, but it doesn't even crack 1% of his entire 75 year history. Plus, the times that he has are either highly debatable (Superman II) or by a creative team that were soon booted off shortly after largely because of it (John Byrne). I also don't want him to kill because there are already enough violent, homicidal comic book characters. Punisher kills. Wolverine kills. Leave it to them.

What I'm looking at right now is a future series of DC Comics-based movies that are dour and bleak. That's not the DC Comics I grew up on, nor is it the DC Comics millions of others grew up on. Superheroes should not be bleak and depressing. They should be fun and a little silly because they're inherently fun and silly. That's always been part of their draw. They're supposed to be a little ridiculous. Yet Warner Bros is absolutely adamant on making them so dark, depressing, and "realistic," that it removes all their inherent fun.

Espy, you said read the comics if I want the Superman I'm looking for and that's a problem, too, because the current version of Superman is one I have absolutely no interest in reading, either. Not while current DC Comics writes and draws most of their comics like they're early 90s Image Comics.

I just have to face that the Superman I grew up on and loved is only in back issues and memories, now. While this bleak, destructive, homicidal charlatan goes on to make millions at the box office.

It does look kinda Adam-Westy which makes some sense since I think they're trying to be a bit less serious than the Nolan ones.
