That's a shame because it is beautifully shot and brings to mind classic cinema of the period.

This 100%! Been watching since it aired and it's outstanding. I can also recommend "Ripley" on Netflix. It's an adaptation of the Talented Mr. Ripley but it is being done in B&W period piece in the early '60s and it's really good, very Hitchcock-like.
