I'm gonna guess that your talking about 9. Why would you describe it that way? Better than any other current animation. Maybe. Using cutting edge animation techniques. Maybe. '5 years ahead of its time' seems like a lazy description and almost impossible to justify.

I agree. I'm not a fan of the 'ahead of it's time' phrase. If it was ahead of it's time, it sounds like it's from the future, or has some kind of missing link of how it connects today's 'tech / vision (or whatever you think of)' to the tech from '5 years from now'.
It's obviously of this time, or it wouldn't exsist yet.

I am quoting from this article, believing that "9" will be a hit, but probably not until after a few years go by. Tim Burton produced animated works tend to end up this way. Basically it's suggesting that American movie-goers aren't ready for something this stylistic.

I just looked at the clock. It says 9:10. I missed it.

I thought 9 looked visually okay, but not out of the ordinary. But one thing said above is certain: Joe Sixpack ain't going to understand why the cartoon isn't princesses and fairies, and why oh why is it making lil Suzie Sixpack cry?
That being said, that's more about the application of animation than the technique. Looks pretty standard to me. The robots look directly lifted from The Matrix franchise.

Wasn't 9 a short film in 2005? And they made the 2009 feature from it?
Rotten Tomatoes isn't a reliable site till the film has been out for at least 2-3 weeks when all the reviews really come in and you get a better average number.

True. What i have been reading about the movie though, is that while it looks amazing and is stylistically impressive, the story falls a bit flat and does not come off too well. I know I will most likely wander out to see it this weekend, mayhap sooner, though that is doubtfule. Becasue
