From reddit:

I read the article and am familiar with the concepts she incorporated into her design. To answer your first question, this is not a discovery. Angela has simply combined the most promising developing treatments into a single particle. It's really all here in the title of her project:
“Design of Image-guided, Photo-thermal Controlled Drug Releasing Multifunctional Nanosystem for the Treatment of Cancer Stem Cells.”
Breaking it down
Design: This is not real. It is a design. If cancer cures were houses, this would be a drawing of a house.
Image-guided: Modern MRI machines use various "contrast agents" to get a better picture. These "contrast agents" are really just really small paramagnetic molecules-- in the nano range. Paramagnetic means something is not magnetic on it's own, but will stick to a magnet. E.g., the door of your fridge. This design has an iron-based particle of these stuck on there.
Photo-thermal Controlled: This is a small gold particle that absorbs light and releases heat. The heat from this reaction is used for...
Drug Releasing: This is basically a tiny box that opens when the above is exposed to light. In this case she's releasing salinomycin, which was one of two promising drug candidates from a screen of 16,000.
Multifunctional Nanosystem:Kinda redundant at this point
Treatment of Cancer Stem Cells.: Ooh stem cells, that's a buzz word. +1 Angela.
The article describes this project as a "swiss army knife" and that's really what it is. It's got all the latest and greatest all in one! Still it's funny because you don't need some of these things at the same time. You're not getting chemotherapy and an MRI at the same time so coupling those two things seems unnecessary. Maybe a clinician can chime in on this.
Most of these things have yet to receive FDA approval, but the rule of thumb for a life saving product to go from the research lab to the clinic is 7-10 years.
TL;DR Holy shit she's 17!

This screams "on paper" to me. There are already a lot of "on paper" ideas to do stuff like this, like the Reddit thing said (I've peripherally worked on one of them before). Actually this seems a lot worse than "on paper" because she has taken a bunch of stuff that is very difficult to do on their own and she combined them all.

The "swiss army knife" comment is not something I would consider positive. It's more like "swiss army knife with pipe dream attachment out".

But yeah mainly I am just jealous.

Two words that explain how a 17 year old Asian girl pulled this off: Tiger Mom.

"You cure cancer? Talk to me when you docta."
Yep. She can't be smart or talented or anything, she's just Asian with parents pushing her.
No Vrii, Mathias has got to be right! My kids are half-Asian and since I haven't pushed enough they aren't halfway to curing cancer.

Mathias that sounds like something you would hear from my wife's family! A great start from a girl whom I hope will accomplish many great things!

For the love of Christ, I was kidding.

Fucking dipshits...

And that of course fully justifies making light of someone's accomplishments and completely crediting it to her race.

Pretty sure he was too.
Hey Mathias, I found your comments really funny and was playing along. Except for the part where I wished her well because I would like to see the great things that kid could accomplish. Yes, we do say things like that around our house, where I happen to be the token white boy. For the love of Christ, I'll try to make it simpler and easier with emotes and memes next time...dipshit. :) <------ I am just kidding you there too Mathias so keep the panties unbunched!

Thank you Frankie for paying attention and seeing what was actually going on!

my bad dude, I meant to quote Vrii

And yeah, I hope the girl steers the course - especially since what she's interested in is within my realm of work.

You get stung by bee? Why not stung by A?

No problem here, but I'm betting Vrii won't be able to pressure wash enough of the sand out of his clit to get the humor anyway. Hey, I have a similar model calculator! Love playing with those buttons!

Ah, overdone stereotypes and worn-out memes, the pinnacle of humour.

Also I'm super offended by your insults or whatever.
