Like the BBC, Al Jazeera is a wonderful news service that gets the stories that the US stations largely ignore or paint/edit to support their own skewed world view.
Do you think Al Jazeera will ever be aired on stations in the United States?
I want to say yes, but it's hard to imagine at this point, specially with Fox News slamming the hell out of them with constant accusations of anti-Americanism and anti-semitism.
And that, I think, is the problem. Morons hear Al Jazeera and immediately think they are the Fox News of the Muslim world and anti-American. The thing is that they are not, but they don't sugar coat everything in a jingoistic pro-American outlook as our news services do. If the US does something bad, AJ says it.
It IS in the US, but in only three places: Washington D.C., Burlington, Vt., and Toledo, Ohio. I'm pretty sure the only reason it's on in Toledo is because we have such a huge African/Middle Eastern immigrant population there.
It's not aired on public broadcasting in the US because it wouldn't be profitable to do so. Whoever wants to broadcast it has to pay for the FCC license renewal, pay engineers, advertising personel, etc, and they have to somehow get companies to advertise on the station to keep it afloat.
It's still better than turning it into another BBC America. Last time I checked, Star Trek: The Next Generation and The X-Files aren't British shows. Yet they are on ALL THE TIME.
I would very much like AJE to be available in the US (on tv). It's not always the most convenient for me to turn on their website livestream when I'm working on my laptop.
Sure, once the socialisto-commie-muslim-babyeater-deathpanelist Obamacare program takes full effect that's all that will be on TV... well that and pro-suicide bombing disney rip-off mice.
Also, people still watch TV?! What's up with that?
