Amazon and Netflix sharing my information?

I was surfing around on Amazon and I noticed they had a recommended DVD for me I looked at it and it was a show I watched on Netflix. I enjoyed the show so I clicked on it for more info. I started scrolling down when I noticed the area where they offer discounts if you buy several items together . I noticed that the movies they offered a discount on where all movies I have in my Netflix instant watch queue. I was wondering if Amazon and Netflix are sharing my private data between each other or if it is just a crazy coincidence.

depends. I don't use netflix, but do you have the agreement with you? (or can access it?) maybe there is a clause (usually) that provider ARE allow to share data with their partners but not sold or given to non-partner entities (I see this a lot actually) now of course I'm not sure if Amazon and Netflix are partners or have some contract agreement or not.


Of course there are codes that keep track of stuff you buy, type of movies and such, and Amazon kinda make a guess of what you want. (which are pretty good if you buy a lot from Amazon) and can just be a coincidence.

Could be a coincidence, could be they're sharing.

The netflix privacy policy suggests doesn't explicitly say that they won't share your info with partners, just that they won't with prospective partners.

Both Netflix and Amazon are available on Roku. It wouldn't surprise me if they weren't actually owned by the same company.

Heh.. I didn't see any articles (quick search) on Amazon and Netflix. There was some about Amazon not buying them, but if Roku (the digital video player) works on both, then maybe roku was the bridge between Amazon and Netflix sharing data. I wouldn't be surprise.
