Anybody watching?
My buddy just introduced me to it, and I'm only halfway through the first episode and its great.
Basically, Ricky Gervais is sending Karl Pilkington around the world and having a camera crew follow him for what he describes as the most expensive practical joke he's ever done. The first episode he's in Beijing.
I'm a bit jealous he got to go to Wangfujing market and I didn't.

Wangfujing is where I think I ate that scorpion and silkworm.
Scorpion was what I was most excited about. The whole group of us wanted to try it (Our Chinese friends we met there had never heard of people eating scorpion, and they thought we were joking. Then when they found out we weren't, they thought we were gross.) That was why we wanted to go to Wangfujing.
We tried to order silkworm at a restaurant near CUC, but I guess it wasn't the right time of year or something? I'm not sure, but even though it was on the menu they didn't have it.

Seriously...I wouldn't recommend it. It's...squishy. I mean I could handle the cicada and the scorpion because they were crunchy and with enough spice, it wasn't half bad. Nothing could save the silkworm, however. And some restaurants I saw them still....fresh. Wiggling around.....
Funny thing about Wangfujing is that most of it is so upscale and filled with expensive malls and 5-star restaurants. Then you have that side food alley where you can get everything from spiders to who the hell knows what else.
