Alucard

Recently got the movie Anastasia on DVD.

Remembered seeing it as a kid. I'm surpised how many talented actors were in that film since I didn't know them at the time.

All I remembered from the movie despite it not being a Disney film was how scary Rasputin was. He was creepier than Scar was from the Lion King movie in comparison.

Wasn't this Don Bluth's last movie? It was ether this or Thumbalina. In ether case, it was his replication of the Disney style that basically ended his career. People used to watch his movies BECAUSE they weren't Disney style.

According to the iMDB, Bluth made 3 movies since Anastasia including Titan A.E. (which I thought was FREAKIN' AMAZING in the sight and sound dept but yes a little thin in the plot dept), though it seems he has also done a movie this year titled Gift of the Hoopoe, which was only released in the UAE.

OH yeah, Titan A.E... that was Don's attempt at doing an animated feature that would appeal to adults, as well as older children. Too bad it fell into the Animation Age Ghetto, as it's actually a pretty decent movie.

I love this movie.

Especially the song Once upon a December. This whole scene has so much emotion in it when the memories of the past come alive, the Tsar and his family once again "alive" (gotta admit that at some time I was pretty interested in the last Romanov).

And I totally dig Bartok (wall, it's Hank Azaria). I still use his line "and then I'll kick her" regularly.

You might like this, then, Just Me...

And for good measure:

I didn't like this movie so much, but it's mostly because some of the Finnish translations are pretty clunky. The original, though... Like it.

If this is the case, and if you have not already done so, you absolutely NEED to see... This short. In HQ. At fullscreen.

He had such a way of weeding through the writers and directors of the time and pulling out the best.

For instance: Titan AE had Joss Wheadon as a screenwriter, launching his career (At least in my opinion). Anastasia saw Noni White rise from a third tier screenplay writer to a first ranked one. Before Anastasia she had been a re-writer for Hunchback of Notre Dame, Newsies, and Lion King. After that she pretty much led Tarzan and has been put in charge of a lot of the Direct to Video Disney sequels.

Thanks, North ranger, I love me some finnish every now and then. It sounds so utterly strange and yet funny, and watching movies while reading out loud the finnish subtitles while getting drunk was for some time a great drinking game with some buddies.

And PatrThom: Thanks for this clip but it didn't touch me as much as it probably should have. But I think my gf will love it.

For the record, it's much more touching in Dolby Digital on the big screen than it is on YouTube over 10 watt speakers. But I work with what I have.
