It is good to have friend in high places I guess. I know the article said that the Whitehouse did not attend or advise in the case, but I'm sure the government is not about to deport the president's aunt if the procedure wasn't going toward his favor
Of course I find it a little hard to believe that the president didn't know his aunt was living here illegally
(note: I did vote for Obama, but I don't agree with some of the policies he is putting out. It is a drastically different than what he is promising, but that is another thread)

Soliloquy
People who seek asylum must show that they face persecution in their homeland on the basis of religion, race, nationality, political opinion or membership in a social group.
Huh. I wonder what kind of persecution she was facing.
This is kind of odd...

I find it odder that he doesn't just use a Presidential pardon or some such measure, and get her to be legal here in one fell swoop.

Why is this so weird? She has stated that she's sick and the health care in the US is better than Kenya's, plus there were hints of violence in her homeland which are not touched on fully. Obama didn't do this. He had no say in it.

I don't care for Obama much at all, but I think if I was Pres., I would probably help out my family and friends too.

The Obama administration had nothing to do with the ruling. Stop trying to stir shit up, Chibi.
How on earth would he have kept track of the half sister of the man who left his life when he was 10? I doubt that he and his aunt were exchanging regular correspondence.
Heh.. Obama administration did NOT have anything to do directly, but her asylum was denied in 2004 BEFORE and set to deport, BUT instead of deporting her they are opening the case again NOW and said ok? I feel in part since she was Obama's aunt, she might get a 2nd chance of review since she is president's aunt, now, if she was just a regular from Kenya, would her case be reopen? or continue with deportation? (she arrive with health issue in 2004 when she was denied to begin with)
That is what I'm seeing that is all.

Yes, of course. How could I have mistaken all that for coincidence?
actually what was interesting that Obama didn't know that his aunt was living in the U.S. illegally. I find that odd, but that just give plausible deniability
but on the flipside: it just show that U.S. Immigration system is slow to work/flaw. She was denied back in 2004, living illegally for 6 years finally she was granted in 2010.
Since she is a "well known" person associate with the President and able to live here illegally for that long, how many others have done the same and live longer?
but I have to give some thanks to the broken system. Because of it, my parents were able to meet and live here AFTER their student visa expired and got green cards in a work program and then residents finally citizenship.

Put the fact that he knew she was illegal or that he and her met in 1998? Are you assuming that the topic of her immigration status came up in polite conversation when they met in 1998?
