Anyone picked up Sleeping Dogs yet?

I am really curious about this game, but I thought the last couple True Crime games were kind of "meh" in execution.

Also, which version do you have? Some people say the PC version is light-years better, some people say that the console versions are close enough as to make little difference since the game plays best with a controller no matter what.

I was gonna wait for the reviews on it and if need be, a Steam sale.

I'll probably be waiting for a steam sale, but the Penny Arcade Report's review of it seems pretty positive. I liked Mafia II though, so what do I know.

I'm waiting for a sale no matter what, I just figured launch week was a good time to ask. ;)

The reviews are kind of all over the place, and it seems dependent on how exactly that individual viewer feels about different GTAs and its various clones. Everyone agrees that it's nothing new, but some folks say that it's the same old formula stewed to near-perfection while others say it's just the same old formula.[DOUBLEPOST=1344960448][/DOUBLEPOST]

So did I. I definitely acknowledge it was far from perfect, but it was a relatively quick enjoyable open-world experience.

Huh...it seems like the "nothing new, but done extremely well" is pretty spot-on. Nice vid!

So I haven't picked it up yet, but apparently Square Enix has done this radical thing where you can try out a small part of the game to see how it looks, sounds, and plays.

Revolutionary! I can see this becoming a real "thing", what with all those internets these days. Kids could actually try out a game before buying it! Amazing what's possible in this day and age.

...Well, it's a good sign, anyway - mostly there's only a demo when they're pretty sure of their product. Which only goes to show how bad the scene is, considering the last demo I played was Amalur, and before that....Phew, years ago.

I haven't played any demos in a while, but that's also because most of the games I've gotten recently are sequels.

I picked up the game. It's fantastic. The story is really compelling, the gameplay is tight, and the pc version is excellent.

I agree with Poe.The game is fun.Though the fighting might get a little repetitive.
Also, driving on the left side of the road, takes awhile to get used to.

I just had a total Man on Fire moment in the game.

I feel like a total badass.

Played the demo, the game is now at the top of my wishlist.

Get iiiiiiiiiiiit. But buy the PC version.

The PC version is definitely the best version, but you may want to still play with a gamepad. M&K support works great, but having an analog stick makes the driving so sweet.

After the Witcher 2 experience, I am sticking to my gamepad (even for PC games) for games that clearly requires a gamepad. :p

Heard mixed reviews of the game... so I downloaded it off a torrent to try it.

5 minutes into it... cannot use arrow keys.... also hidden binds to activate phone is set to up arrow key.... so not even GlovePie can fix this.

Managed to get the controls working... but it's wonky. Obviously a lazy PC port.

The gameplay is very much GTA... only in Hong Kong. Overall, I like it but it's clearly a weak copy of GTA 4. Combat gets repetitive with me vs 10 asian guys every 2 minutes to control cameras.... then I found a better idea.... just hijack a car and run them all over.

Camera controls are wonky as well.

I disagree with everything you just said.

Having really enjoyed the demo, I think this is a buy, but since my games backlog pretty big, I'll wait for a Steam sale.

Disagrees with you and agrees with Jay.

Those who agree with me are usually right.

The game is good in its own right... but it's clearly a GTA clone.

Yahtzee is entertaining, I love his videos, but is rarely a source for credible game review. He tears into shit, that's his shtick.

I had no problems whatsoever with Sleeping Dogs. And with the HD texture pack it looked downright gorgeous.
Fighting did get a little repetitive, but still was more fun then GTA 4.

No F'in way.

Anyways, played the game all night, it's a solid GTA clone... though I'd place Saints Row 3 a clear notch over it.

My favorite part of the game by far was a glitch I had in the game... where I jumped out of a speeding sports car.... slow motioned 2 kills on a car chasing me... the "matrix move" was finished and I hit a metal railing before finishing my fall.... remember when those Giants in Skyrim would launch you to the sky when they hit you? That's what happened to me. A metal railing I was flying toward horizontally, threw me straight up vertically... several hundred feet in the air. Then I landed on top of a building with no fall damage... my guy just rolled a few times.....

WAT

WAAAAT

WAT!

I probably haven't laughed that hard in several years.

I sounded like this : (start the video at 9:00)

So I finished the game... it's about 12 hours of gameplay... probably more if you want to collect all the whatevers... the only thing I cared about were the lanterns that gave extra health.

So the ending...

Man was it well executed... I loved the last hour of the game. Storyline was well done though I wished there was more. Along with many things. For example... I met... what 5 girls during the gameplay I dated? After that one date.... never spoke to them again... always managed to get laid though... then a random message from them weeks later going... hey who's whatever? I'm mad. What?

What the hell happened to the demo video we saw? At no point or time did that gameplay show up... was it cut off? Also, what happened to all the video gadgets we saw? Like analyzing people or changing city lights?

I just bought it, went in for 2 with a friend as Toys R Us is having a 2 for $60 on select xbox and PS3 games (I price matched at Best Buy). Took over an hour for the PS3 to download and install the game update, by the time it finished I had other things to do. So it still sits unplayed.
