Are You Looking Forward To POTC 4? Or Could You Not Care Less?

Philosopher B.

I'm always late to these things but I don't think this has been posted anywhere else. I searched and everything, man. If it has just shoot me in the head and let me drift off into that sweet sweet nothingness.

Movies - At The Movies - Captain Jack introduces 'Pirates 4' - Digital Spy

Not sure how I feel about this. I love the series, even if the last two movies were all over the fuckin' place and I kinda had my fill of Jack where's-the-rum Sparrow, Elizabeth jut-that-mufukkin'-chin Swan and Will I'm-NOT-a-pirate Turner by the time it was all over.

On the plus side, this film could slim down on all the nonsense, right?! And it's got, like, Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane playing my favorite pirate and shit. Plus Rob Marshall directing. I mean, I've only seen one Rob Marshall film, but I thought Chicago was a worthwhile picture to put in front of your peepers.

Not excited at all. They could have stopped with the first movie and I'd have been perfectly happy.

makare

If it doesnt have swan or turner in it I am super excited.
If they are in it, meh city.

#4

Philosopher B.

They're not. Which I see as one of the biggest pluses.

#5

makare

Yay I love all the potc movies especially the second, that's my favorite.

The next one should be good, get more real pirates in it.

I'm skeptical. I loved the first one, but the other two are not all that good... But I guess I may go see it if the trailer turns out to be interesting enough.

they're making a fourth movie? Are they going to continue following the formula of star wars and make it a prequel set 30-40 years before the first movie?

I'll probably see it. I'm hoping they are going back to a more formula, episodic movie this time around instead of doing a two parter that actually lessens the previous film. If they keep this story to a single movie, it'll probably be good.

Me too. One thing that I think will help the next movie sink or swim, is whether or not they can avoid getting bogged down in running gags and homages from the previous movies. That was another beef of mine with the second, and especially third, movie. But it does seem as though they are shedding some of the excess weight; for instance, the pirate with the wooden eye isn't going to be in it.

I quite enjoyed the first POTC... but my interest waned on the next two. As for POTC 4? Who knows... not having Turner and Swan will probably be a big plus as the movie doesn't have to carry all the baggage from the first three.

I will gladly see POTC 4, but I'm more looking forward to the Pirate Latitudes movie.

I'll probably end up seeing it sometime, either in theatres or when it comes to my local Redbox. I got sick of Bloom and ... what's her name... well you know, her... after the 2nd movie, but frankly, I'm also kind of tired of Jack Sparrow. The character was great at first, but after 3 movies it feels like he just became a caricature of himself, if you know what I mean... It's hard to explain. Maybe I'm just sick of him.

So they are making the film with out that beautiful girl in it?

I hear Keira Knightley is not coming back either.

I have not even bothered watching the 2nd or 3rd movie yet so I have doubts that I will bother with the 4th

I think I get you, even share your opinion about Jack Sparrow. BUT! Maybe part of this feeling is because he was somehow madder in the last movie? (within the story, I mean)

i'll probably go see it because i'm quite happy that Turner and Swan are not coming back.

I love the first movie, by the end of the third, i wanted to kill Elizabeth Swan with a dull spoon

And by dull spoon, you mean your penis.

I think they re-used gags and stuff too much. He likes rum. We get it already.

Also, I feel like he's sort of like Bugs Bunny. He's so Looney Tunes, you don't need a pile of other comedy relief characters in it. That bugged me about the last film. They tried to squeeze painful comedy out of every other dude in the picture. The meeting of the Brethren Court drove me nuts!

there's nothing dull 'bout my penis, bitch

Seriously, that girl needs a sandwich so god damn much.

What she needs is to quit opening her mouth and sticking her jaw a half a foot out in an attempt to look sexy/thoughtful/any emotion. Drives me up the wall.

You could scale that shit when she gets going. It's like an honest-to-Zod rock face.

Quite. The formula worked much better in the first film because everyone played the straight-man to Jack's completely unpirate-like zaniness, while he played unwilling comedic partner to chance. When they had everyone catch up, and then tried to take the story seriously in the latter two (but especially the third film), it just felt "meh".

That said, the 3-way swordfight in the second film was pretty effin' rockin'.

Yeah, I didn't hate the second one. The first one is still my favorite, but I really enjoyed Davey Jones in the sequel and his weird voice. Do you feaahr deyth?

Allen, who is Quiet

I act better in the bedroom than Keira Knightley does onscreen

Lol.

Also, I agree the second one was the coolest after the first. Bill Nighy's Davy Jones was pretty radtastic.

Excited about it. Fountain of Youth, Atlantis, rumors of dinosaurs... it's gonna be apeshit.

I also have to agree that Davy Jones was pretty rad. Definitely the best part of the second movie.

I loved the first one and honestly dug the second and third. They're nowhere NEAR as good as the first, obviously, but I thought they were fun. I feel the same about the Matrix sequels.

Plus, without the two girls in it? I'm definitely down.

I thought Barbossa was an awesome character, and adding Ian McShane as Blackbeard only sweetens the deal. I'm sure I'll see it. I don't really care much about Sparrow or the rest, honestly.

^Agreed. Barbossa was the man.
That's one of the reasons I liked the 2nd one, actually--the ending. :D

I was not aware of this. POTC4 just went from "2nd or 3rd cheap night to avoid the cost and/or rush" to "will be seen on opening weekend."

He was easily my favorite part of Kings.

It was the first thing to get my interest. I was on the fence, then I heard Barbossa's back too. That sold me. He's the best part of all three movies, especially when he goes batshit crazy in the last one.

I'm sold.
