Avengers Comic to be written by author of 8-bit theater and Atomic Robo

Yep, Brian Clevinger is going to be writing a remake of The Avengers vs. The Infinity Gauntlet.

I've never bought any marvel comics, but I'm actually pretty excited about this, because I'm a big fan of Brian Clevinger's work. Of course, I also fully accept that many people might loathe this turn of events, since Clevinger tends write things that are entirely pointless and silly. Also, he's friends with Tim Buckley, so there's plenty of room to not like the guy.

But still, think of the significance: A guy who began his career writing a Sprite Comic is now writing for Marvel.

Excuse me, I need that head exploding gif.

You didn't know that? That's actually the only reason I know about Atomic Robo.

Though, if it weren't for Atomic Robo, I'd only think that Clevinger's work is "meh." 8-bit theater was entertaining, but far too disjointed, How I Killed your Master hasn't really been that great so far, and Warbot in Accounting kind of died before it even went anywhere.

It may help that A.R. is, I believe, co-written with either another writer or the artist. Don't quote me on that, though, since I don't have the comics in front of me at the moment. Still, it feels more of a collaborative process, from what I read in the books' introductions.

Hmm... from the look of the collection that I have in front of me, it's just Clevinger who does the writing. I mean, maybe he works with the artist, but I don't see anything that specifically says that.

Maybe it's just that Atomic Robo thrives on its silliness (Like 8-Bit Theater) but the fact that it's in print limits its ability to go off on pointless, long-winded tangents.

The more I think about it, the more I'm guessing that this Avengers comic will be close to the quality of How I Killed your Master, which isn't bad, but doesn't play to Clevinger's strengths.

This is the most awesome webcomic news I've ever heard. I'm so happy for Brian. I've been following his site for years and loved Atomic Robo. I actually own Nuklear Age on e-book.
