I'm sorry, what's the difference in a pay for play battle net and an MMO again? I forgot....

Activision are retarded and tournaments would move on to garena or somesuch...

Plus Blizz already said it's free...

But i was more excited because it means this:

So...If you play a game on Battlenet like Diablo III (for instance) it would COST YOU?!? No thanks. I'd rather play solo.

See? This is what I dislike about the current move of all games to a micro-payment or monthly payment structure. I'm already shelling out $50 or more for the game and now I have to pay to play it, too? This is the reason it took me so long to jump into WoW in the first place and the only reason I kept doing that was because of the interactive social component. These other types of games won't have that.

To me, MMO and any games that is going Micro payment should follow Asia example (and some American now) is that making the game FREE to download and install. You can play the basic but then have micro payment to access the extras ;)

OR

No micro payment and just go with monthly fee

OR

a single/local network game that is flat one time fee and no micro.

these hybrids are gonna scare away some gamers.

Err, that's never been said. It's all just speculation.

Remember... Activision wants to start charging people to use Battle.net. It's not all sunshine and lollipops.
Where did you hear this? As a fanatic of all things Blizzard, I have heard nothing official saying that they are going to charge for the service. Blizzard has said B.Net will remain free just like it always has.

"As mentioned before, players will be able to use Battle.net for free when they purchase the full version of StarCraft II. There have been no changes to this."

The only thing that has a confirmed payment structure is going to be the marketplace, and that is only if the one that makes the map/mod wishes to be compensated for his efforts, as he gets a cut of the sale. So I ask that you at least show proof of such a claim, rather then going chicken little all over it.

The Massive part of Massively Multiplayer Online Games. The ability to share a persistent world with a massive amount of people on one server is what justifies the monthly fee. There's nothing massive about small matches connected through a lobby system. It's the same reason why Guild Wars doesn't have a monthly fee.

As i recall someone at Activision made some ill advised comments that started the whole thing, but as apparently no one saw i already said that Blizzard came out not long after saying that Bnet 2,0 will still be a free service.

Ah, I can already tell you who it is then, Bobby Kotick. He is sadly the president of Activision Blizzard, and is known for the fact he is a ravenous profiteer with little to no knowledge about games themselves. He is also known for not keeping his mouth shut about his "desires" to make money off everything he can milk. He is the only reason I would worry about B.net 2.0 becoming a paid service, but thankfully he is pretty much just a lot of hot air with little control over Blizzard themselves, due to agreements made during the merger.

Yes, I was worried about the idea of a pay to play version of bnet, especially because the game was going to require bnet for any multiplayer. However, as we've gotten closer, all rumors of pay to play have turned out to be unfounded and they are also looking at using bnet just for authentication for multiplayer, while still allowing LAN based connections.

Now, is just the waiting for SC2 to actually be released.

While i'm sure it was his idea it might have just been some other Activision drone mentioning some stuff about developing for-pay online services and stuff.
