Alright so, the wife and I started this show the other week and are in season 2.5 now, it's really good. I always poo-pood it at super nerd stuff, and maybe it is, but it's really damn good.
So my question is: I see there are 4 seasons for me to watch.
Is this going to end like Firefly? By that I mean, is it cut short and I'm just gonna be pissed off?

My understanding is that it has an official ending to it but that many people didn't like it. I happen to be watching it with my wife right now too. We are also on season 2.5! *high five!*
And we are blazing through the episodes too. It is extremely entertaining so far.

It has an ending. It was planned to end. There was a lot of nerd rage along the lines of Lost. Not everyone was pleased... But it is worth the ride.

Oh well I can handle the nerd rage. Just good to know it does have an ending not a OMG WE JUST GOT CANCELLED SCRAMBLE TO END IT.

I need to find a copy of the movie Razor. I had BSG set to record on my DVR. But since this was a movie, and I did not hear about it until after it aired, I never got to see it.

The last 1.5 seasons are pretty disappointing, IMO, but more because the first two seasons were amazing than the later ones actually being particularly bad.

It has a definite ending.
My suggestion, don't watch the last half-hour of the final episode.
Stop after the climactic space battle and just except that they escape and live happily ever after. You don't really need to know that details of how that transpires.
Didn't your parents teach you how not to spoil the ending of things son? Seriously dude, I wasn't looking forward to finishing it or anything.

spoiler alert dood.

Well i've forgiven new BSG for not having a well planed ending because of The Plan movie... in which they basically admit there wasn't one...

So what other than the standard show do we need to put on our list. I understand there are some webisodes, miniseries, etc that I need to dig up. What order are they all to be watched in?
#11
@Li3n
Well as i recall Razor was in between s3 and s4, and you should only watch it after the Pegasus plotline ends.
Wasn't the mini-series the 2 films? Thats how it starts with 2 1.5 hour films essentially.

The miniseries set the whole thing in motion.
Starting with turning the Galactica into a museum ship. The explanation of why they use mostly analog equipment onboard or non-networked computers. Then the attack, and pulling the fleet together.
The films covered events not shown in the course of the 4 seasons.

I still have to watch this show. Mike and I were supposed to watch together but he started watching one night and I said "well, I'm sleepy, I'll catch up tomorrow!" Next day, woke up, went to work, got home and Mike was into season 2 already. (He stays up until 5am most nights and works late hours.) So I said screw it, I'll let you finish the series first.
He took short break from it then watched the last few episodes without realizing. He was looking for where he left off and then finally realized he'd finished the series already. (Reminded me of when we finished Veronica Mars... "Okay, I'm home! Let's finish up Veronica Mars! ......oh, that was the last episode. Heh." :-/ )

The mini series sets it up and is basically like the first four episodes. Yes I know that season 1 starts with the episode "33".
I saw Razor and it was good. I didn't know there was one called The Plan. I'll have to look into it.
As for the ending, you'll either love it or hate it....or think it was ok. Honestly I think that a lot of the nerd rage came from the fact that it didn't matter HOW you ended the series, people were going to complain.
I originally dl'ed the first two seasons off of a torrent, thinking, what the heck. After watching them, I got hooked - I've since bought all of the seasons (including Razor), but have only rented "The Plan" (I plan on picking that up at some point). I didn't mind the ending, though it could have just as easily ended after that epic battle.
My most favorite sequence is the "'Adama Maneuver" from Season 3, "Exodus (Part 2)" - those of you who haven't seen it will know what it is when you see it.
BTW: Razor chronologically fits in Season 2 between "The Captain's Hand" and "Downloaded."
Also, they are going to be doing another pilot for BSG, set during the First Cylon War - Blood & Chrome
But the annoying thing is that right after they cancelled it it actually got interesting... and the flashforwards where very interesting.

Caprica got the axe because it was not making money. They did a good rush job to end the series though.
#26
@Li3n
Yeah, but as the BSG Golden Boy i assume that Moore could have pushed for at least half a season more or something...

I think he got the entire second season...
In the end it was just Dallas set on another planet. A lot of guys did not watch it, because stuff was not getting blowed up in space all the time. A lot of girls did not watch it because it was on SyFy (I'll never forgive them for the name change.)

@Li3n
Nope, that break was in the middle of s1... and the last few episodes where put on another channel or something.
And yeah, they spent way too much time on rather boring stuff they could have easily cut out without affecting the story until the end...

I tried to get into Caprica while it was playing, but just couldn't. I am thinking about putting it into my Netflix queue to give it another shot, but it doesn't appear to be one that I'd be interested in watching more than once.

@Li3n
Like i said, it only got interesting at the end, and in the flashforwards for the now not happening second season...

That's what's going on with Stargate Universe. It started out SOOO slow, and their desperation at trying to make a BSG clone was too obvious. Unfortunately, just as they finally start writing some interesting stories, it gets cancelled. They should have come out of the gate stronger with that one.
Anyway, since this thread is about BSG - I didn't watch any of the extra stuff, just the shows, and I don't feel like I missed out on anything. So, if you have trouble finding some of the non-season off shoots they did, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

@Li3n
Actually i found SGU's last couple of episodes even more boring then usual (the Jonas Quinn planet thing was both interesting and pointless at the same time)... doesn't help that Eli and Rush are the only interesting characters... the commander guy is the only other character that has potential, but so far he always falls flat.
#33
figmentPez
I was about to argue with you abou interesting characters, and then I realized the other characters I like are only interesting when they're interacting with Eli and Rush.
#34
@Li3n
Or they're interesting in the "chevron guy" way... which is really sad for Greer, coz he's a supposed to be the Teal'c of the main cast... potential wasted (of course Teal'c probably would also bee the same without the interesting stories where he can do stuff).

I like the engineers, now that they are being given more dialogue, rather than just being background characters. I think Eli and Rush are good because they are actually given interesting parts. Seems like a lot of the other parts are just boring, psudo-soap opera crap, and it's all pretty much the same. I think most of the actors could just deliver other character's lines and you'd hardly notice a difference. They don't seem fleshed out.
