Since #2 is coming out, I feel it's only right I actually play the first one before I get that.
Should I? Most of my friends called it a watered down, pathetic version of System Shock, IE System Shock Casual....but the story looks interesting and I love horror type games.
That and I was wondering if anyone knew any coupons for it, since 19.95 is a bit steep for a 3 year old game.

I'm possibly the biggest SS2 fan around here and let me tell you that Bioshock didn't suck. It's a solid spiritual successor that was hugely entertaining to play. You are missing out if you haven't played it.
There's no sense to frown down upon Bioshock for the sake of System Shock. Its current fate is the fault of a shoddy publisher who have no idea WTF to do. It's a miracle that Bioshock even happened, a miracle I tell you.

It's a great game with a good story, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't played system shock but I hardly see that affecting how this game is.

Anything that Ken Levine does is awesomesauce to play.

Well if you care a lot about challenge in a FPS you won't find it in Bioshock, but it has everything else you can ask for.

It doesn't offer a lot of challenge, but it has tons of atmosphere and some pretty unsettling moments. If I was to get it for anything, I'd get it just to see how "paradise" can go wrong and then learn about how it got there... the story is probably the strongest part of Bioshock.

I have for the PC AND PS3 version. I do like the PS3 version better due to "easier" to control for me. It is a LOT of fun and I highly recommend it. Plus, it is getting cheaper since version 2 is coming out

Great game. It isn't terribly difficult but it's got a brilliant story and design. It's worth 20 bucks easy.

This thread is actually making me want to dig out Bioshock and play it again. It was great.
Comparing it to SS2 has always bothered me. It's not really a fair comparison as the 2 games don't really share that much in common.

Ayup. The story and visuals alone are worth the price of admission, and then there's all the fun, creative stuff you can do with plasmids and the like. Example - if you set an enemy on fire, they'll immediately jump into the nearest pool of water... which you can then zap with a lightning bolt. Toasty.

Too bad you weren't interested 2 weeks ago. Steam had it on sale for $5.
But yeah, it's an awesome game. Although, you tend to dislike awesomeness, so your mileage may vary .

Fantastic game, disregard anything JCM says about it and you'll be fine.

I'm one of the few people in the world that didn't like Bioshock.
This isn't to say it's not a good game. Dispite my dislike, I could tell it was a very polished, very atmospheric, and very well made game. It just wasn't for me.
I tend to heavily dislike shooters.

Bioshock was my first real shooter to be honest and I'm glad since it had such a strong story and such great game design. A lot of shooters simply really on SHOOTING! BAM! POW! and don't bother to create the world and story that is needed to create a really strong game IMO.

I'd say it's worth the 20 bucks, but you may want to hold off for another deal on steam, which given the Bioshock 2 release should be coming around again before/during it's launch.

I don't know about that. Bioshock was $5 September 08, then December 08, and then not again until December 09. It might not happen like that--although maybe they'd do a bundle deal.
Nevermind, go with Seraphyn's idea. If there's no sale, it's not like it'll go up from $20.

Go get it!
I have the PS3 version (U$50, bought last october), and is the first FPS that really got me hooked. And for 20 or 25 bucks is a steal.

Bioshock 2 is up for pre-oder on Steam, and it comes with Bioshock. If you're not going to pre-order Bioshock 2 yourself, you still might be able to get the original from someone who did, but already owns the first.

Well, tbh, System Shock 2 really is a much better game. But Bioshock is ok too. It's not like Fallout 3 which is just as good as fallout 2.
Although both Bioshock and Fallout 3 are way too easy, even on difficult.
