Blue Dye No. 1 as a medicine?

This article blew my mind a little bit: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/07/bluerats/

In summary: Rats were given a spinal injury then injected with blue dye no. 1 (not randomly, they had a reason to believe it would be beneficial) and found that the injured rats recuperated faster than those with no treatment or a placebo. The only side effect? Their skin turned blue. The findings are pretty new, so take them with a grain of salt, but it seemed like such a quirky experiment and result that I had to share.
