There is no nice way to say I am a recovering sugar junkie for lack of a better term. I have spent most of my adult life overweight and miserable. A few weeks ago I made a drastic and blind choice to ween myself off of sweetened drinks, normal and diet, along with standard dietary changes in pursuit of being slightly healthier and all that goes with it. I want to be clear on this too, I am not trying to go through life with no sugar in my diet at all, im not that brave, at least not yet. I have been on minimal sweetener intake for about 10 days and while i was VERY VERY cranky for the first 3-5 days I now feel excellent. I have been sleeping better, my brain feels less foggy during the work day, and ive been extolling giving it a try to all my friends, family, and coworkers. I have mostly been drinking water during work, and flavored seltzer(la croix)at night when home. when we go out to lunch for work i drink unsweetened tea with a splash of lemonade, and black coffee in the morning for my caffeine needs. I realize this isnt a paragon diet, I am more than open to suggestions, im not an expert, just trying obvious things to improve my life.

I’m glad you’re not trying to eliminate sugar entirely. After all, there are times when it is entirely appropriate, just not as often for today’s more sedentary lifestyle.
I know it gets easier once the “withdrawal” phase is complete, which is about the time Coke starts tasting like carbonated syrup, or a single Reese’s cup tastes sweet as a chunk of maple candy.
Keep an eye on the rest of your simple carbs, too: Fruit juice, honey, even foods like corn or pretzels.

Also btw great example of that title creep thing.

interesting sidenote on that everything is sweet, fast food burger buns taste sweet now. its weird. also I now taste flavors in seltzer water as sweet, whereas when i started they just felt flat.

Fast food burger buns *are* severely sweetened.

We all consume way too much sugar, it's addictive and it's easy to add to all kinds of foodstuffs to make us like or crave them.

Having said that, good luck! I've recently cut caffeine from my life, and while this won't last, it's really noticeable how I've already recuperated enough to be as awake as I ever was after a coffee, but now without the coffee. I've cut back on sugar on occasion, and one of the most noticeable things I find is that "sour" or "tart" fruit tends to start tasting sweet again, meaning it gets much easier to like them as a snack. Eating a mandarin after a Snickers bar is horrible, eating a mandarin instead of a Snickers bar is perfectly OK.

fast food burger buns taste sweet now.
Buns usually have more sugar in them than bread, either just to sweeten them up (for flavor or to feed the yeast so it can inflate the buns nice and tall) or so they will brown easier—fast food fries are also often soaked in sugar water in order to give them a more pleasantly browned crust.

I was tempted by the siren song of the classic Pure Cane Sugar soft drinks at my local mega mart this morning. But I was strong. I resisted. I stuck to the sparkling water already in my cart.

I was good here too. Five Guys was an option, but I went with the honey sesame chicken on white rice from Panda Express as my cheat meal for the weekend. Much closer to a Healthy Choice bowl for nutrition stats.

Oh, we have one. But for $15, I'd rather go to a nice restaurant and eat a nice meal and leave a tip.

oh? ok. I dont normally make jokes about peoples sexual orientation anymore so I just assumed you weren't aware of the chains existence.

It’s scary how many things have added sugar that we’d never imagine.
