Okay, so I've ordered Cards Against Humanity. Other than going to the site for Pretend You're Xyzzy, how could we play this online? Anyone else played this?

Yes, many times. It's amazing!
However, I didn't buy it but took their PDF file and printed them out and I played 3-4 times now over the months and these cards are a hit and very very crude.
Not for playing with those who are get insulted easily.
My favorite question went along the lines of :
What gets you laid first your first date?
Winning answer?
Date rape

I downloaded the source code from Pretend You're Xyzzy, so I'll see if I can get something to work here. But it would be an experiment, that's for sure.

It's a fun game.
re: Jay's example, c'mon, that's way too on the nose

I played CAH on Saturday night at a housewarming and before I knew it, 5 hours had passed and all the gin was in my stomach.
It was the strangest time perception dilation I've ever experienced.
Such a fun game. I guess to play online one thing we might do is just get everyone who has a deck together and we all use our own? There might be a problem with repeats but I don't think it would be THAT big of a problem.

Jay
I tried the online one once, it sucked. People kept dropping in and out and dealers couldn't pick the good cards for shit.
Also the human interaction is key.
Last time I played, I cried. CRIED WHEN I PLAYED.

I always like the ones that hint at a larger story, like this one.
Cards Against Humanity is only as good as the people you play it with much like Apples to Apples.
I've played both with groups where we were howling with laughter and times when you just wanted to punch someone in the face for picking the lamest shit.

I'd imagine playing it online would be awful and devoid of all the fun that comes with playing a game like this while interacting with human beings.

We could play with Skype on... that is if any of us are brave enough to have near face to face interactions...

An online version of this would be amazing. I'm not sure how you'd accomplish it though. Even if everyone had a copy of the game and you could trust that we'd all stick to the cards in our hand, there would still be the "mystery" requirement we'd need to fulfill by all the answers. The Card Zhar isn't supposed to know who's answers are who's. Heck. I also like the "Rando" element where you just take the first card off the deck and add it to the pile of answers.
My wife bought this for me for Christmas and we had a bunch of friends over for a Christmas bash. We spend several hours playing this game. I can't remember any of the greatest answers that night, but I do recall a haiku that won a round because it was about Santa Clause killing hookers.[DOUBLEPOST=1364021577][/DOUBLEPOST]If we had a game designer in our midst I bet a downloadable unofficial version of this for halforums use could be done with little effort or expense.

A modified version of a poker client would work. You just have to have each individual only see their cards, with the ability to reveal them and maybe a voting client for the judgement.

"Lifetime presents: Just the Tip, a story of half-assed foreplay."
That was my winning play last game I had with my friends. I'm rather proud of it.

Why am I sore all over?
Shut up! Nobody cares!
Is a winning play I'm pretty proud of.

Doing it in the butt.

A couple of friends are hosting for International Tabletop Day and this is one of the games they are promoting. After the past debacle that was a dozen rounds of Resistance (and plenty of uncalled for insults), I am wary of joining in on this game. I plan to bring my own games that I know I'll enjoy and invite others to join.

Mike and I picked up CAH at PAX Prime last year without having any idea what it was. We've never played Apples To Apples, saw they were handing out t-shirts with weird words or phrases on them, and decided to buy after reading a couple cards. Probably one of the best purchases we've ever made!
Now we bring it everywhere and make everyone play. We even picked up the expansions shortly after (and need a better storage system...)!
It's awesome when you really know the people you're playing with and can cater to them when they're card czar. Mike loves anything dealing with destruction and racism (just to clarify, he's not racist, but racist jokes are humorous). And my favorite card is "SASSY BLACK WOMAN" because she first in EVERY situation. I love her.
It's also a great way to get to know someone new and see just how terrible they are!
Here's 2 of my favorites:
Lifetime presents Finger Painting, the store of a bleached asshole.
(^^ Good lord that picture is huge!)

I propose an online game with Vent in our near future!
I know there's a chat thing, but with a game like CAH, you really have to be able to really talk to the other players, otherwise it could lead to some seriously hurt feelings due to a misinterpretation of a message or mistype.
Plus playing on chat would be boring as shit.

Hmm. Sadly that time slot might not work for me. If it were one or two hours earlier it would be fine.
We can move it back a few hours. Does that work for everyone?
#49
Shawn
Probably wont be available until 11 central.
#50
Dave
Well then we'll go back to 7.
#51
Jay
I won't be able to make it. I just landed some tickets to watch Sugar Sammy.
If this happens again, I'm IN.
#52

Wtf is Sugar Sammy?

If I can find my headset, I'm in.

Sweet! So it might be only a few of us. I think I might try and rope my daughter into it as well. My wife would but she can't as she's getting a root canal done tonight! (Ouch!)

It's right up there with rock star and race car driver.

I just realized, I don't have to dig out my headset, I can just throw some headphones on my laptop. It's got a surprisingly good internal mic.[DOUBLEPOST=1364511179][/DOUBLEPOST]Where is our vent login info again?

Sorry about the game, guys. My dog decided to freak out and took my headset with him, wrecking the mic.

God DAMN was that fun!!

Bumble the Boy Wonder
I'm going to have to learn what this game is so I can play
#68
Officer_Charon
It's like Apples to Apples or Madlibs, but for people with no soul.
To no-one's surprise, Dave rules at it
#69
Ravenpoe
Hey, I won one too!
I don't know how, I'm a very innocent and clean person.
#70
Shawn
You done in there?
#71
Ravenpoe
Yeah, we finished. But we'll be doing it again
#72
Dave
Yeah, we stopped about 9. (About an hour ago.)
#73
Shawn
oh well. Just got home and got homework done. Guess I'll have to wait till next time. Hopefully if I can convince my wife to join she'll let me play. But it would have to be earlier in the day. Maybe on a Sunday.
#74
AshburnerX
Definitely fun. Especially with the My Little Pony cards turned on. My god.
#75
Shawn
You kinda need to know MLP to really get it though
Oh shit, you're right. Damn. 5 pm then? If we go a couple hours it'll still be good.
#92
Ravenpoe
Just confirm the date and time and I'll be there.

That time is fine for me, assuming I'm not out for dinner on Sunday instead of Saturday. But don't wait up for me or anything.

Oh damn, I have to work at 6 on Sunday! D: maybe I can catch the neeeext game!
Anyway, Friday and Saturday night I met up with 2 friends for dinner and introduced them and a bunch of their friends to CAH both nights! Nice introductions, and sold all of them on the game! The best thing was one gal one Friday night was a Japanese exchange student. Everyone assumed she wouldn't really *get* the game, but turns out she won the most rounds!
#97
Dave
Brief note. Someone else start the game. I'm headed out to my mom's house. I don't know if I'll be back in time. I may pop in after a bit if I do. Sorry about the short notice.

Cards against humanity is the very first thing listed under Furniture & Decor on amazon.ca. as I found out today:

MindDetective
Nah, just the second expansion. For leveling uneven coffee tables.

I've got the game up and running, I think. Just waiting for everyone to pop into Vent. Password is the same as last time.

Ravenpoe
Let's do this shit!
#102
Ravenpoe
When are we doing this shit again? We gotta get on this, make it happen bitches!
I might have to bail. The power chord for my laptop died, so it's dead at the moment because of no way to charge it. (I'm on my phone). Hopefully I can figure something out. But yeah, I just wanted to check.
#127
AshburnerX
It should be. I'm around for it at any rate.

Game is set up. Just waiting for more to show up now.
Looks like they added a new deck or since we've been gone.

This was super fun. I need to get my PC fixed so I can mic it up on vent.
#132
Dave
Man, it must have been my cards or the fact I was still exhausted, but I bombed that game. I don't think I was in the top 3 in any of the games.
Maybe, deep down inside, you're actually a good person, Dave.
Nah, you just got screwed on cards.
Speaking of which, I really like the idea of coming up with a Halforums deck to play with.
#137
Ravenpoe
You know, since this is always so much fun, I think we should expand into other card/board games on vent. I'd love a Halforums poker night.

Case for Humanity is an interesting project on Kickstarter. It reached the funding goal early and it has some great options, from DIY to having a constructed box delivered with custom engraving.

I hear the halforum gang regularly get together for this every Friday or so? Seeing if my wife and I might be able to join sometime.
