Anyone watch this?

This show simply gets better and better. Tonight? It was OFF THE CHARTS.

What a fun show. :)

I won't see the new one until it is put on Hulu, but yes, I love the show.

I love it too. I even read the books. And yes, they are cheesy. It's part of the fun!

Haven't read the books yet but my mother in law has the second one! :D
Absolutely love the show. Castle and Beckett are a great team and I love all the wild twists and turns. It gets better and better each week! Another half hour til I get to see the new episode.

Really? They good?

I might buy them.

I love the show and I tell my fiancee everyday to try to look like Stana Katic.... heck just get her hair ffs

Also, I love me some Nathan Fillion.

Awful pic of me, but that is a beautiful man so I don't even care. <3 The lady who plays Beckett is also very good looking. ;)

#11

Dave

The best part about the show last night was Castle's response to
ripping the wires from the bomb, thus stopping it.

It was a great show!

#12

Jiarn

This is one series I plan on buying in full. It's on a long list of shows I need to watch.

Currently sitting on: Last 2 seasons of DS9, Smallville, Buffy, Big Bang Theory, Supernatural, Walking Dead to name a few.

*sigh* I need more freetime.

I already own 1st and 2nd season of Castle. I can't wait to own the 3rd :)

Heatherling, I'm so jealous of you.

Nice pigtails.

#15

linglingface

:p I like having pigtails for conventions and amusement parks! They make me happy.
Fillion is a sweetie, by the way. He wasn't even scheduled to be at SDCC that year but showed up anyway and sat at a booth for pics. I was just going to take a picture of him and he said, "C'mon sweetheart," grabbed my camera and took that pic. /swoon
That encounter may have helped bump him way way up on my charts.

He does seem like a cool guy. The only celeb I get to hang out was Bruce Campbell. He is pretty fun guy.

The only? That's a big only.....

#18

SpecialKO

Bruce Campbell is hysterical in person. I saw him at the New York premiere of My Name is Bruce on Halloween of a few years ago. He found one kid in the audience dressed exactly like Ash from Evil Dead 2, and brought him up next to him on stage for pictures. He asked him how much he spent on his costume, the kid said "50 bucks" because he went out of his way to buy the actual shell of the correct chainsaw online, and Bruce looked embarrassed, gave him $10, and said, "thanks".

My wife loves Castle. To death. I asked why once and it was all about Nathan Fillon. She said I talk exactly like he does and that while watching him on TV is nice, listening to him talk is like listening to me talk and it makes her feel attached to the show.

Watching it and loving it. The only thing I hate is that it's been shunted to a goddamn idiotic time slot here (Sundays at midnight).

linglingface

Gah all the tension between Castle and Beckett, it's like watching Bones!

(Not really a spoiler... but something they've already released about the finale a few weeks ago. I'll hide it for anyone who really doesn't want to know anything, though.)
Who do you think is going to die in the finale? They said one cast member who has been there from the beginning is going to die.

It's looking more and more like it's going to be the Chief, I think.
Obviously it won't be Castle or Beckett.
Ryan and Esposito have had close calls, but you just can't have one without the other!
Castle's mother or daughter, now that would just be cruel.
I had originally though Nikki Heat, as a "haha, got you guys worried!" kind of 'prank', but because Castle's signed on for 4 books, that wouldn't work.

Everyone else thinking Chief Montgomery, too?

#37

Dave

Dave

It'll be the Chief. They are already setting him up to go bye-bye.

Which sucks.

Another good choice would be Castle's mom.

#38

Wasabi Poptart

If it's not the Chief I'm leaning toward it being Alexis's boyfriend.

#39

linglingface

linglingface

If it's not the Chief I'm leaning toward it being Alexis's boyfriend.
But he hasn't been there since the beginning, has he?

Everyone on the show is going to be so sad if/when it's the Chief and then I'll be sad and I might cry! T^T
Can't remember the last time a show has made me tear up, but everyone on Castle is so splendiferous that I just might...

I forgot that it was going to be someone from the beginning. I think Chief would be too obvious, really. They are setting him up to leave already. Why kill him? Although the "shot on your last day" is pretty commonly used in police and military-related shows/movies.

What if it's Beckett's dad?

#41

strawman

Yeah, but the quip "He quits all the time, and always comes back. Give him some time." kinda seals the deal for me.

What if it's Beckett's dad?
This is an interesting idea. The previews seemed to suggest that the episode was going to be a little bit about Beckett's mother's murder. Something along the lines of everyone connected to it dying.

#42

linglingface

Maybe they'll hint at the Chief in the finale some more and then bam hit us with Beckett's dad.

My prediction: She was wearing a vest and is perfectly fine. They faked her "death" so that the assassins would think they were off the trail. Then the evidence that Montgomery sent out will quickly resolve the mother murder in the first episode of the next season and it'll be back to light-hearted murder fun.

Yeah, I'm thinking that might be the story as well. Castle, however, appears not to be in the loop. Who is?

#67

It'll probably be someone like the FBI or something like that.

Something else I don't think I like is the fact that Beckett will probably make fun of Castle for what he said or she won't have heard it. So it'll go back to the status quo.

That's hilarious. They start off the review with, essentially, "castle is a stupid show with a flawed premise thats only good for a quick laugh if you turn your brain off" and they review the last episode by saying, "yep. Still stupid. Ok, if you like that kind of stuff. I guess."

If you don't like the show in the first place, the season ending is hardly going to be interesting, now is it?

There's a good reason people should pay attention to movie reviewers that like the same things they like. I don't understand why people think tv review should be any different.

I was thinking fake-out too, like they did before on Bones.

Ahhh what a finale, I don't want to wait until next season. :-/ I hate crazy cliffhangers!

#77

Wasabi Poptart

But if she was wearing a vest and is fine, why did Castle have blood on his hands? They also padded her with a blood pack so it would look real and didn't let him in on it so his reaction would be realistic?
Really, I'm afraid that if those I love you's turn into something concrete the show will jump the shark like Moonlighting did when Maddie and David finally got together. You don't remember that show? GET OFFA MY LAWN!

I disagreed with a lot of the review, and I agree with your assessment that it dismisses it as stupid, then goes on to explain why it fits in the box its made for it. BUT... I do agree with the review in that the dark tone shift almost wrote Fillion out of the episode. And I agree that the "cliffhanger" was not especially great: she isn't dead, not exciting.

That said, Castle is one of the shows I never miss, and I'll be there for season four.

Espy

I enjoy Castle, but it is easily one of the most predictable tv shows on the air. The big "OMG" moment at the end had no tension because we all know everything is going to be ok next season. Give us some REAL tension, like 3 or 4 episodes where Kate is worried she's pregnant because Castle won't wear a rubber.
Added at: 09:44
Also I have not heard a better description or reason to watch the show than what that article said: "Which is fine, so far as it goes; Castle is hang-out television, a chance to unwind for an hour at the end of a long hard day, spending a little quality time with Nathan Fillion. " And who doesn't need that?

#85

strawman

strawman

The show is, essentially, the Nathan Fillion show. It has hints of Abbot and Costello with a heavy dash of The Honeymooners. Mix well with Murder, She Wrote and Columbo and you've got Castle.

It's formulaic and predictable pablum for the masses.

It does have, however, just enough of the type of humor that I enjoy without becoming a full-on sitcom, and dispenses with the heavy partner-swapping nighttime soap operas that ER became and Grey's Anatomy was built on.

Think she dies?!?

(Me either.)
That was one of the sloppiest non-cliffhanger endings I've seen in the last few years. No one out there believed she was going to die for a moment. The only question left is what tired cliche they'll use to explain why she appeared to be shot at the end of the season. My money is on the tired-and-true "it was a sting/ruse to draw out the bad guy" routine.

Still love the show, though. I'll definitely be watching this year.

Excellent show tonight.

Is it just me or is the new chief sorta... you know.... not so good?

#98

strawman

strawman

I don't know about the new chief yet. She could turn out to be a good hardnose who won't let her people out to twist in the wind, or she could turn out to be the wicked witch from the west.

I strongly suspect they are making her unlikeable so that when she goes on the line for them it means something. I don't think they'll let this current tension grow for too long on that point.

However, the deception of Castle towards Becket and vice versa (though her deception is, to me, not nearly as weighty as his deception towards her, but they are written to obviously give each other a secret for this season) is an interesting twist. They have to keep them apart in order to maintain the necessary romantic tension, and this appears to be a reasonable way to do it (too many shows are too contrived on this point).

I'm intrigued. I hope they make progress on her case each show - I prefer more continuity and fewer fillers, especially since the characterization of the major characters is well established.

I suspect the only thing we're going to see for a few weeks, though, is how the relationships and dynamics change due to the new chief, and the fleshing out of her character.
