Ok. I am going to need some Catholic explain this one to me.

So does Vatican provide money to these churches when they open/build/maintain? I thought it was via local donations and such?

If the church does close, does the land go back to the public? sold? or still own by the church?

Property depends on the situation. Whether the land was a gift, a loan, or purchased directly by the church. The actual buildings are normally considered the property of the church not the person that holds the deed.

The church also stations the priests to the parishes. If attendance falls greatly, there will not be enough cash coming in to cover the bills. This is most likely a consolidation of multiple parishes into one.

so it is technically owned by the Vatican then? so pretty much these people doesn't really have a case since it is private property?
