This movie was absolutely gorgeous and brilliant. While its running time means it's not a movie you can just pop in at any time and watch, it's still a fantastic film. It's a huge shame that it didn't get more recognition from the Academy because I think it deserved at least a nomination for Best Picture that year.

Also, anyone who claims it's another movie guilty of white-washing or yellow-facing or whatever their claim are complete morons who either didn't see the movie or missed the entire point of the narrative. Usually the former.

I love this movie. It's also, to date, the most expensive indie film ever produced.

I think this is one of those movies you either love or hate. I loved, my wife hated. I thought it was an amazing accomplishment and she thought it was confusing and boring.

This is the only 3-hour movie I've ever watched, and then -immediately- watched again. I loved it that much.

Does it stick closely to the book or are there a lot of changes? I really enjoyed the book, but haven't watched the movie yet.

I have no idea, I haven't read the book. But the movie is one I would recommend to anyone, regardless. Whether you like it or not, it's an experience.

I can tell you that the structure is a bit different. Rather than the book's nesting doll approach, the film cuts between the different stories at points united by character, theme, or action.

Some people love this movie, some hate it. Some haven't seen it but dislike it because of actors who were made up to look Asian.

Personally, I think this movie is a massive undertaking that spans centuries and works well, even though if you miss any of it you will be a bit lost. The "yellow-face" is inconsequential and in the story is either not noticeable or has a need to be done.

I loved this movie and think those who love movies would find it interesting.

By the way, this is the rant/rave about Cloud Atlas thread. Fire away!

There's also Asian actors in white-face. And Tom Hanks in drunk-face.
