College wi fi question oi

I seem to be stuck in a bit of a quandry here. Mostly its with connecting my PS3 to the college network.

For the last two semester the previous suite I was in we had our on wireless router that wasn't a problem.

However since moving to a differnt suite we are stuck using a crappy college campus network.

In each of our rooms we have a router provided by the college and serviced by Road Runner.

As I said previously I've never had problems connecting my ps3 wirelessy until now so I can't play any of my games online.

Can any of you tech oriented people be willing to assist me with this problem?

Could be the college is blocking it. My college is already blocking YouTube and social networks to stop people from watching music videos on the school computers.

Yeah, many college wireless are blocked to certain sites. They may also be using a proxy to connect. I'd contact the IT for your college and see if the PS3 is acceptable use on the network and find out if there are any permissions or proxys that you have to use.

I have to agree with this one. It is more than likely that your college does not want "gaming traffic" to muck up their bandwidth. I am betting the PS3 sites are either block or packet sniffer blocking all non-"legal" traffic.

have you connected PCs this way? You could need to register the machine.

Oh yea... We did this with our wireless network for our community college (well the central IT group did I just manage the hardware to make sure they work)

Basically if you connect wireless to our network, you are REQUIRE to install a plugin. This plugin check you have the latest virus protect and at least 1 register spyware protection (Spybot, norton, mcafee etc etc not the fake ones)

without it, you won't be allow to use the internet.

You might be able to set up internet connection sharing from a PC to your PS3. Connect your PC via WiFi to the internet, then via ethernet cross-over cable to the PS3.

Okay thnks for the suggestions and help guys. when we first plug in our computers for the semesters we have to log onto their network.

See what I can do, however my other roommate has a 360 who can connect just fine so its kinda strange.

You probably just need to sign into the network then you can do so in the ps3 netwok settings. The ps3 may still have your old network settings. I'll get detailed info when I get home
