Covert Affairs

Watched the pilot last week on USA Network, I think that this show has some potential. Lots of possible roads to explore with the concept of a newbie in the CIA. I'll give it a few episodes at least to see if it's work keeping up with.

I was disappointed with the way that Royal Pains has been going, not interested in it. Psych continues to entertain and Burn Notice just keep getting better. USA has become my stop for the hour long drama series.

There is allot they can do with Covert Affairs but for the time being I won't be coming back to it weekly.

There are numerous reasons for this.

1. They have absolutely terrible action scenes. Really just flat out awful. There were 3 action scenes in the first episode alone and each one of them was flat, boring and lifeless. The director knows how to do a great action scene so I don't think there is any reason to believe that this will get better in time.

2. The characters are just not likable. The only character who I liked was the blind guy and that because he actually came across as a believable character. He wasn't perfect like the main character who none the less acts like she has a deathwish and he didn't scoff off a fellow agent's claim that she engaged in a high speed chase like the boss did. Nor did he lay out the red carpet for a reporter and then get completely demolished like a bitch as the director did. He came across as charming but believably so, bright but not so outstandingly so that you think he can solve everything.

3. The entire plot of the episode was stupid. If the CIA had checked the body like they would have the deception would have been found out, if she had called somebody during the car chase the entire plot would have fallen apart, if she had notified one of the numerous SWAT members there wouldn't have needed to be that painfully bad chase scene. I mean when the CIA comes across as stupid and the opposing plot makes no sense on the first episode I really don't have much hope for the series.

I feel bad judging it so harshly after only the one episode but I really can't stop thinking that the entire series will be just as bad.

Like I said, I think that it has potential, enough so that I'll watch around 6 or so episodes to see how they grow from the pilot. Some shows, that six is enough to see what they have in mind, or at least intrigue me enough to watch a few more. Firefly was like that for me, watched the first, then stuck around to see what was in store (honestly at first the "cowboys in space" had me wondering...) and then FOX douched it. Big Bang Theory, that I love now, first couple of episodes were really rough, wasn't sure the show would make it, but as the actors got a grip on their characters and started filling them out, well, I watch live instead of TiVo.

Pilots, to me, can be misleading, since the creators basically have to make a short, made for tv movie, instead of really showing what the series will settle into.

Thanks for the opinion, I do like to see what others are thinking of shows as they come out, and hadn't found anything about this show yet.

Hmm, not much of one. Chuck is, I think, better, but Jake 2.0 was a good series that died before it's time.

Kinda necroing this thread, but I need to comment again.

I gave up on this series. I like the premise, I like most of the actors, but they never jelled for me as a CIA team. I don't think I'll bother with this again when it comes back from it's hiatus.
