So apparently a family in my city had accumulated 589 rabbits that were seized by the city recently, nearly all of which had to be euthanized due to disease.
Wow and I thought my 100 rabbit population was insane. That was the height 4 years ago. Since then we've sequestered them by sex and have been taking good care of them.

Or make the finest coat of rabbit fur ever to grace these lands.
No just a rabbit fancier who had the great idea of making a bunny run under his deck, then when they started overwhelming the run just fencing up his entire backyard and letting them loose.
Not the worst idea ever we had many good years with them in the backyard, it made them happy. I loved walking out there and spreading a bag of carrots around. But they did what rabbits do and the population exploded and before we knew it we had 100-110 buns out there. Then a fox took about 30 and we started caging and sequestering them, we've lost about 10 a year since then and have gotten down to a respectable 40.

Pet hoarders are sad people because they usually mean well it just doesn't turn out. So many rabbits.. that's sad.

The 589 bunnies carried a contagious and untreatable disease called Snuffles and all had to be euthanized.
That's 2,356 lucky rabbit feet! Maybe once you get over 10 or 12 lucky feet, your luck starts going the other direction until it balances out.

Reminds me of stories I keep reading about people being found with tons of cats and whatnot ... 500+ rabbits, though, I can't even imagine. My familly had like probably 40+ when I was a wee bairn.
