Not Toho, not really interested.

I can't wait until Toho returns the the big guy.

I will wait to see who is attached to this film before getting my hopes up.

Until then you will find me dusting off my old classics and singing "La lalalalalala" when anyone speaks of any other creature or film sharing the beloved name of Godzilla.

I tried to link the Family Guy clip where they did Godzilla on Ice but I couldn't find it.

hence the caution (we all remember the last time it was done stateside, and that terribleness).

As for it not being toho...that doesnt bother me, if Legendary can do it right, sicne they will have more money and names to play with than the studio in Japan.

Andromache

Legendary Pictures hmm?

I thought Cloverfield would have been a great film, had they not thought to try and outdo the epileptic seizure camera man from Blair Witch Project. As it was, it was like going to a greatly hyped restaurant and finding out that all the awesome food was actually puke worthy. But I'll wait and see.

Personally, I hated Cloverfield. With a passion. I mean...I really, really hated it.

Side note...I cannot spell today :(

don't misunderstand me, I did too, but was trying to relate how hopeful I was about it prior to seeing it.

I completely disagree, but I know that this movie has been disscussed ehre before, so no point going into it again, I suppose.

what the hell could you actually see? I mean, maybe if I had dramamine, but the quake-o-cam still gave me a headache.

#14

I don't think it gave everyone a headache or that so many people had trouble seeing, so much as those who had trouble seeing made a big deal out of it. And they had a right to--they paid to see a movie and couldn't really.

I got it on DVD and had no trouble on the small screen.

As for Godzilla, I don't know who will be doing it, but Legendary Pictures at least can get people who will put forth the effort, unlike the Emmerich one, where him and Dean said openly that they didn't see the appeal of giant monsters. I'm cautiously excited. I've enjoyed some of the newer Toho Godzilla movies, but they've been fairly soulless, as opposed to the early 2000s Gamera trilogy, which was phenomenal. I never though that stupid as hell turtle from the 60s would be making better kaiju movies than Godzilla, but it happened.

But, I've been a Godzilla fan since I was 3, so I'm willing to give it almost any Godzilla movie a fair chance.

most likely not. Different studio has the rights, and as of now, there is nothing about what it will be like yet. I am hopeful as of now, until there is more news.

Remakes, remakes, remakes... how about a frickin' original monster movie, not one that will induce people to argue which looks better, a man in a costume that looks like the cross-breed of a lizard and a piece of turd, or a CGI animation that looks silly.

I've rewatched some of them. The Japanese version of the original is generally considered a serious good movie symbolizing the nuclear strike on Japan.

As for others though, I think Godzilla vs Mothra is a good one. Several others are fun, even if not good. Soulless as I say Godzilla: Final Wars was, it was hilarious.

Yeah! I wouldn't consider a remake because it likely won't remake a previous story; it'll just be using the character.

Geez, NR, next you'll be complaining about the Japanese version of Spider-man where he got his powers from a spider-alien and drives a spider-car.

Well, just to make this clear, I wasn't ranting against your feelings of nostalgia, Cajun dear. I was ranting against the fact that a novel idea is so horrifying that they have to remake a movie that was remade in... sometimes in the late 90s, who cares.

But it doesn't say they're remaking the 90s American Godzilla; it's that they're making a movie of Godzilla. You can't call use of the character a remake. That's like saying The Dark Knight is a remake of Tim Burton's Batman because it has Batman and the Joker in it.

How can you hate it. Japanese Spider-man's robot was so popular that Toei began adding giant robots to its new Super Sentai series.

I feel like people will be making Godzilla happen every generation anyway. And most of the times I won't really care. Cloverfield got a big 'meh' from me, especially considering the stupidity of the characters involved.

But I should also note I'm not really a fan of big monster movies. None of them have really tingled me in the right place.

Yeah, I can understand it not being everyone's thing.

Which is why Dean and Emmerich shouldn't have been doing the 90s Godzilla movie. Why choose to direct something that you know you don't like? I don't get it.

Cash moneeeyyyyy. But yeah, sucks that their paycheck is at the expense of fans getting a movie worth enjoying.

Actually, to tell you the truth, lately I've come to realize I hate a lot of Japanese storytelling. Just can't get into a lot of the Japanese pop culture stuff like anime, manga, giant monsters, JRPGs, etc.

Check my wording, O begoggled one:

"that they have to remake a movie that was remade in... sometimes in the late 90s, who cares."

The reference to the remake goes to the original Japanese Gojira movies, not the Titipopulous-joked one with Matthew Broderick and Jean Reno.

They didn't say they were remaking the 50s one either, just that they were doing a Godzilla movie.

Now you're just arguing semantics. If it's about a monster that comes from the sea, belches fire, is maybe created by nuclear explosion and is called Godzilla, then it's a frickin' remake of the original. They are making the same film again, hence it is a remake.

#36

ElJuski

Not really. Continuing a series and remaking it aren't necessarily the same thing. Though this may be a case of both.

In that case, Godzilla has been remade in Godzilla Raids Again, King Kong vs Godzilla, Godzilla vs Mothra, Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, Son of Godzilla, Godzilla's Revenge, Godzilla vs Gigan, Godzilla vs Megalon, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, Terror of Mechagodzilla, Godzilla 1985, Godzilla vs Biollante, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs Mothra (90s), Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla (90s), Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla, Godzilla vs Destoroyah, Godzilla 2000, Godzilla vs Megaguirus, Godzilla X MechaGodzilla, Godzilla-Mothra-MechaGodzilla: Tokyo SOS, and Godzilla: Final Wars.

Excluded Godzilla vs Hedorah because I can't recall if he came out of the sea in that movie, and excluded Godzilla-Mothra-King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack because in that movie Godzilla is a demon made of the spirits of those who died in the Pacific War, not created by nuclear explosion.

In other news, Dr. No has been remade 21 times, most recently under the title Quantum of Solace starring Daniel Craig.

Nah, but I love Godzilla, I would not even mind if they made it similar to Final Wars, even that was ten times better then the Americanized iguana, Zilla.

That was not what I meant and you know it, Mr Smarty-Pants. From the article I got the idea that the film was going to be what Batman Returns was to Tim Burton's Batman or what the first Craig Bond was to Dr. No: restarting the story from scratch, disregarding several of the main elements of the earlier films or making it Darker and Edgier. Hence, a remake.

You mean Batman Begins, right? Because Batman Returns is a Tim Burton sequel to Tim Burton's Batman. Which is not a remake of anything; it's a reboot.

I wouldn't call Casino Royale a remake either--except of Casino Royale. But also a reboot.

I think this would only be a reboot if they intend to make a series out of it, but now I know what you mean.

In reality, I am the one with fail, because I was able to name almost all of those by memory...
